Sometimes I get pretty far along on a piece before changing my mind and going in a completely different direction. Case in point, the cover to issue #2 of the first  Far West mini series. At the time I was very new to the field, so I was using a technique I would never use today, which involved painting on a xerox copy of the inks. (I would later learn that this wasn't necessary, which is why the cover to #4 suddenly looks so much better than the first three issues.) Because of the dull colors this tended to produce, I wasn't sure I could achieve the kind of intense, glowing color needed for the magical energy blasting out through the window. Below is a shot I got off the web of the cover I wound up doing. It has its own problems (don't even get me started), but it's okay I guess.
