I've been trying various things for environments. There will only be a few locations in this short game:

-Outside the apartment

-The main room

-Jesse's room

I'm really trying to get a handle on what I want exactly for backgrounds. I'm trying to figure out what direction I want to go in...

These are all duds- the above is a test with Blender's free style. but I'm not really a fan of the render time + not being able to see the free style stuff in real-time. And I don't think just slapping textures on things will work in my case. So, I need to figure out a few things...

With stylization in 3d, there's a few things to consider. Some of them:

-How much does the shader do? How much does the texture do?

-How much should the geometry of the model be exaggerated (the shape)?

-Do things respond to lights? (Flat shaded + painted vs. using lighting)

-Do I just have a different setup for each camera angle and use different objects depending on the view? (things farther away are more abstract, close ups are less)

I really would like to pull of something similar to what I did previously, background wise. But I'm not sure how I would go about that.

I also tested out clothes for Lonnie. As you can see, the topology is weird- but it actually works quite well. I'm still unsure of how clothe will look. But I'm on to something with the model.

Also, I started his sandals :3 it was a lot easier than I thought it would have been tbh.

Also, I started work on Jesse's model. The nice thing about my characters is that, previously, I modeled the 3d guide heads and drew over that. They weren't intended to be shaded or animated, so of course adjusting is necessary but it's nothing terribly extreme. So, in the end, the head transitions nicely into shaded and lit 3d.

As much as I'd like to jump right into his model, I really want to have an idea of what environments will look like first. But also... one of those steps involves figuring out scale. How big is Jesse? How big is Lonnie? So, I came to a scale that I think it satisfactory~

(note that Jesse's sculpt still needs more work before I start retopology!)

I think Jesse would be about 7.5 ft tall, maybe closer to 8. Lonnie is 5.5 or so. Idk. But I've also decided that there's like, world building.

In this world, there are living spaces designed for large folks. Same with furniture and appliances, etc... because there are those who are big! Perhaps 3 sizes of living spaces, small, average and big. Establishments do their best to accommodate all. But of course, there are places specifically made for certain size folks.

I feel like, since the world is skewing even *farther* away from reality, perhaps backgrounds should reflect that- cartoonish, malleable, a sense of continuity but it's not terribly important.

Also here's an angle I really liked :3 but I had to get rid of fancy shaders because they're too much for my wimpy gpu >_>

Until next time... hopefully by then I can figure out the environments/backgrounds!

gosh that's a pleasant size for your big soft friend to be...........<3 I totally didn't pick up on the size difference between them in the 2D version, so this is already paying off<333

also does lonnie actually fit that massive donger in those shorts? did you have to modify his model at all to get them to fit?

In the 2d version, I originally was sticking to more "realistic" proportions so Jesse was shorter than Lonnie who was tall-ish. But I feel like that's limiting with what can be done, design wise/proportionally. I think having it so there can be BIG bodies and smol bodies opens a lot of opportunity for more interesting character designs (plus also size dif is hot ;3c)

I forgot to go into detail about this! For the clothes, I already know that actually simulating them (let alone layers of fabric like boxers under shorts) is way out of my budget and resources. So, there will be different models for fully clothed, with just boxers and naked. I just completely deleted the dick and balls geometry all together because it isn't seen with clothes on :p and also, the shorts are very WIP and I'd like to have some kind of "jiggle" for the bulge~ but I'm not sure how exactly I'll accomplish that... yet
