The actor that played the detective, Lee J Cobb, is in one of my favorite films, 12 Angry Men (1957). If never seen it, highly recommend it. One of the few films on rotten tomatoes with a 100% score. Great legal drama that focuses directly on the jury. It’s absolutely a masterpiece and still relevant today.

Also, if looking for a great more horror film to react to after this one, I highly recommend The Menu (2022). It is not really scary but dark and disturbing, but also at the same time very fun as well because it is a dark satirical comedy too. Great cast too and all excellent performances. Cast is Ralph Fiennes, Anya Taylor Joy, Nicholas Hoult, Hong Chau, Janet McTeer, and John Leguizamo to name a few. What this film feels like to me is if the Brothers Grimm were alive during our times and wanted to create one of their dark tales in today’s culture this is probably the story they would create. Thought you might like it. :)

There are videos on youtube interviewing people coming out of theaters when it was released. Crying, horrified, loving it, etc.

ok, this came out in the 1970s, it was shocking and just cast a spotlight on religion in a way that no one saw saw coming. I saw a documentary, which has since been taken off air about the making of this masterpiece. It was unnerving and actually made people vomit and leave the theatre which is why it was banned in several states

I LOVED this reaction. I can't wait to see how Robert Gordon Green's version turns out this October. And the actress who played the mother in the original, Ellen Burstyn, will be back! 👹

Wow, I wasn't expecting this! I wish I had time to watch the whole thing, but I skipped ahead, really wanting to at least hear you two talk about this one. I only know one or two er,,, fun... facts about this movie. There are more, but I can't think of them right now. First though, about the pacing. The opening was probably as slow as it was because, although you know what's going to happen, and you have enough knowledge of how this sort of thing works that you feel like you're being shown a bunch of things you don't really need to see, audiences of the time had very little knowledge of it, and so they would have needed the set up and build that we got at the beginning of this film. Otherwise they'd have been lost, or at least couldn't have gotten really invested in what was happening. Of course, as you know, it was also a different time, where movies could be slower paced. As for the "fun" facts. In the scene where Regan was being tossed around on the bed, the actress broke her back in real life. Oh, and I scrolled through a lot of the movie to see if this was the version that had a particular scene that was cut out of the original theatrical release. I couldn't tell which version of the movie this was by the length alone. I was using my left and right arrow keys where it skips ahead every ten seconds or so, so if it's there, and I missed it forgive me. But the scene shows Regan coming down the stairs, but she's walking backwards on her feet and hands like a spider, but with her chest up and legs and arms down. It's hard to explain properly, but that is one of the scariest things I've ever seen in my life. I can't see it without my stomach trying to turn itself inside out. That scene was originally cut, I think because art the time they couldn't make the special effect look very good. They've since redone it put it in the newer release, and it looks incredibly good. There is a clip of the remastered scene on Youtube. You should really check it out. Just put something like Exorsist stairs scene or something in the search. *Shudders* What I saw of the reaction is great, ladies. I hope work permits me to come back and watch the whole thing soon.

The scene where Ellen Burstyn gets slapped and flung to the ground? They had her hooked to a pulley and the director, Max Von Sydow, told the man who was pulling the harness to yank her harder for the next take; they didn't tell her and when she fell the next time she seriously hurt her back. She's had lasting back pain ever since and I believe she sued the film crew for damages. That's the shot that made it into the movie and her cry of pain was genuine. Also, a fire broke out on the set and every room burned.......EXCEPT for Regan's room 👀 One more trivia fact; the male nurse in the scene where Regan is first in the hospital and is moving onto the table? He ended up becoming a murderer.
