Apple-Fee and Patreon website update (Patreon)
Content
Hey hey everyone! Hope everyone are doing well!
Usually i try to avoid doing some "news" posts here, and trying to focus on delivering some new content, but this news heavily affects the whole Patreon platform, so i feel like i need to share it to you asap. Well, attached email screenshot pretty much says it all.
Long story short - it seems like Apple is about to introduce 30% fee to all new Patreon memberships purchased in iOS App Store, starting from November 2024.
By the example provided by Patreon website itself - if you are using Patreon application from iOS AppStore, and for example you support Patreon creator via 10$ subscription, your subscription price may get raised up to 14.50$ cause of new Apple Fee policy.
From how we understand the situation, if you are subscribing to us (or any other creator on Patreon) from your browser or just any other PC/Android phone/device, your subscription pricing should stay the very same. So if you are using your iphone to sub to us or other creators through the iOS app, please consider switching and using your browser instead so you don't have to pay the new fees. Supposedly existing subs won't be affected, but if you leave and re-sub later for our releases for example it will apply to you in that case.
Additionally, and this wont affect our Patreon page at least for now, it seems like Patreon website is gonna get rid of a lot of other membership types (like pay-for-creation), because this new 30% Apple-Fee system "doesnt support it". We apologize for any inconvenience it may cause. I really hope this decision will be cancelled, but well... something tells me it wont, at least in a short term. We will keep you updated on the matter, and hopefully bring some good news on this topic in future.
If you have some questions, i'll try to answer as much as i can in comments, but this new system is as new to me, as it is to you too.
Stay safe n healthy and til then!
