Hello again,

Before I leave for my vacation, I just wanted to announce that the fanart character of September will be Galadriel, as she was the winner of my last poll. If you have any cool ideas for a sculpture based on her, please feel free to share your thoughts here. I'd love to know what you guys have in mind for her. You can share images on Discord too, if you want.

When I get back, I'll take a look at what you suggested, and start sketching things up :)

If you didn't want to just sculpt Cate Blanchett and look to the source material you have a lot of creative freedom. Tolkien highlights her height even among Elves, general beauty, and especially her hair. Going by raw book accounts of Elves they actually are not said to have pointed ears, that was an addition of artists going by popular depictions of fairies which originates with William Shakespeare's self-insert being basically Pan. His actual description of Elves is basically just "stronger, a bit taller, beautiful humans" though he describes them as being all androgynous to the degree that their reproductive organs are basically the main physical difference, though based on his frequent reference to them as beautiful leads artists to portray the men as more feminine than making them all a mix of masculine and feminine. Plus description of Elven style other than vague terms of being beautiful are rare, possibly intentionally so since he wanted it to feel like a true story or ancient myth that had been altered by generation after generation so the original was lost in many translation. So if you wanted, you could just make Lady Dimatrescu or She Hulk as a medieval queen or Athenian noblewoman or whatever. She's also athletic according to the source material, so maybe an alt sculpt with a bit of abs/arm muscles? Tolkien loved throwing shade at xenophobes and used Galadriel's gift of strands of her hair to Gimli to throw some towards the idea of the Dwarves being looked down on by Elves for greed stereotypes. So maybe something highlighting her hair in pose? Just combing her hair doesn't really bring to mind what most people imagine for her probably, but a fair bit of hair texture to paint would be nice. Her ring of power being the focus of her pose is also an option, the prologue of the films showing her gazing on it on her hand during the poem while the books say once the One Ring was destroyed she busted it out and started using it without fear. Before then she probably wouldn't have had it on after Sauron stopped pretending to be a gift giver, but she could be holding it in her hand or something. That's honestly my suggestion, holding it in her palm or fingers. Despite being disappointing to say the least, that over-the-shoulder smirk she gives Gandalf in the Hobbit is a good choice. Its more playful and would go better with a nude. The rest of her movie poses are just a bit plain since they consist mostly of pouring water, standing and looking at someone, or waving, and most of the book info is just where she was and when rather than anything in particular she was actually doing other than being a leader of a group of people. Tolkien's unfinished works as well as Christopher's Silmarillion compilation are a bit contradictory, describing her both as ambitious to eventually rule as a queen and eager to go to battle before leaving Valinor but also really averse to conflict, putting her on a pedestal as being along with Gandalf as the two most holy "mortal" beings, and having to just inherit her kingdom as the most royal Elf left in Middle Earth late in the era of the Elves with the two depictions not really being resolved. She somehow avoided all the kinslaying and evil oaths but went along with them to Middle Earth before taking off to do her own thing immediately off the boat, was so into protecting her people that she didn't get involved in the first and second wars, was too into her inherited kingdom that she declined returning to the east when invited due to her lack of fucking anything up, and left the entire plot of her daughter being kidnapped and tortured into insanity by Orcs to Elrond and her grandkids to deal with. The new TV show is apparently having her do some adventuring, and one of the video games had her helping the Dwarves reclaim Moria and in both she's got armor and a sword so you could just say "fuck it" and give her a medieval general pose or something. Tolkien's inspiration of viking queens and Lancelot's tragic wife might give you some ideas. Maybe more the former than the latter.

Don't know if you'll going to have time in your vacation to take a look into The Silmarilion or Unfinished Tales. Galadriel is a powerful character from an epic style story spanning thousands of years. In her younger years she was very prideful. She is very tall. Her golden hair is beyond beautiful. Also with powerful, I don't mean that weak take of putting her in armor and making her a bargain bin Brienne of Tarth like the recent trailers suggest. Think of her as a queen first, for example she persuaded Gwaihir the Windlord to go pick up Gandalf from the mountain top after he fell with the Balrog and fought for days. She knows people and she rules.

I wish I could make a sculpture of Galadriel that would capture just what you described here :) It's a bit difficult, though, especially because I noticed my characters are usually better received when they tend to have sexier poses. And since my Patreon is more focused on sexy pinups anyway, the challenge here will be to find a pose and outfit that better represents how Galadriel would present herself when she wants to seduce, I think. I'm not sure I can make it work for everybody, but, well, that's the life of a creator :P
