I think this, for me... , is the best ep of anime I have seen yet.

I'd be curious sometime for you to do a tier list ranking the anime you've watched so far

Lixien

Yeah, I get it, sometimes you don't like a song from the first reaction and then you listen to it a few more times and it makes you go on a tangent about the soundtrack of a different show, it just happens.

Miklagard is a norse name for Constantinople. So Snake somehow appeared in Denmark directly from Byzantine Empire. Supposed to be pretty high ranked warrior. Maybe his backstory described somewhere in manga, but I stopped reading it on events of this season, so not sure myself.

matthew bremmer

miklagar was a high status warrior caste in the byzantine empire back in the 1500s or so.

Welcome home Gardar

Parampreet Singh

We definitely need more tangent Tony’s 😂

Yuyu

I knew it was coming and still this episode never fails to make me tear up ugh... its just so good at making you feel and ponder so much.

Vinland saga goated as always when it comes to everything. But when talking about great anime music like jojo, aot, hxh, bleach, evangelion etc. no one ever talks about vinland saga’s music and i’ll never understand it.

Joe

They don't call the piano man the main character of S2 for nothing. Crazy to think after an episode like this that the best is yet to come IMO.

Leonard Martinez

I wonder if this will end up being the anime you watch with the biggest disparity between you loving the show and hating the opening song lol

James

There are some people that will say Gardar's story seem like it was randomly inserted into the story, but was effective in adding to Arnheid's story who has suffered so much already, and it was also effective in seeing how characters will respond in certain circumstances. On a random note, I encourage you to check out the Planetes anime which came out in 2003-2004, and in which the manga was also written by Makoto Yukimura. It's a sci-fi anime, and you may see similar themes and messaging as Vinland Saga. This is a trailer for the Blu-ray release from a couple of years ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=igmZSI3kILY

I have a son and daughter. I don't know whether for in their rebelling timing or no willing to play with me anymore or hating me...(at least my laundry kept separate). It broke my heart. But, after watching (maybe if just only for this epi or not?) I found my sadness in my life is nonexistent, still. and I remember trying not to cry caused my stomach tears. I still feel like, this great epi is bad for my organ and stomach...including the great piano using. anyway this work from here changed something in my brain , at the least, less being scolded for ex... effort not taking off my socks during meals. family say it is just usual delicacy but more fundamental something actually. sry for my kind of misleading comments at epi16, tried not to spoil

James

Yeah, there were some people making those sort of comments in one of the other reaction channels, and one of the people reacting didn't really care for that part of the story.

Jet Man

This episode felt like it hit me harder the second time. Someone please charge the guy on piano for a hit and run.

Loayza

Yeah, many said they ‘wasted’ half an episode on a ‘non-relevant’ character, how crazy.

I really like how you mentioned listening to Hunter X Hunter and Death Note soundtrack separately from the shows in your time off, considering they have the same composer. Yoshihisa Hirano. Masterclass composer, honestly.

FullHeart

This is wild because Gardar was here thematically all along. Gardar is Einar. Gardar is Thorfinn. Gardar is Thors. Gardar is what it means to be a Norse man. Like, the themes he represents have been present the entire time, it fits in with explaining how and why Arnheid ended up here. Like I could write essays about how his presence makes this story. He's a puzzle piece that fits so many things together

drumrolltonyreacts

@fullheart Right!? I think the people that say against him are fully missing the story and are just looking at blood and swords

SKAOG

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_Note_original_soundtracks#Anime_soundtracks Caveat is that there is another composer (Hideki Taniuchi) who is credited for the famous Death Note themes, so it's not accurate to say that Yoshihisa Hirano is responsible for Death Note's OSTs, and the one's that he was responsible for are those which are not popular with the fanbase. HxH 2011 is still one of my favourite OST collection though, I believe Tony will enjoy the anime, so I'd love to see it eventually come in a poll.

SKAOG

My GOAT Yutaka Yamada strikes yet again with beautiful OSTs

SKAOG

I think because the other anime have music which is much more pronounced, so people end up talking about it more, while music in Vinland Saga plays a more supporting role, along with the fact that the piano/orchestral type of music might not be as listenable by itself to the average viewer compared to say Hiroyuki Sawano's OSTs

Jed Nauman

Man this ep was such an emotional roller coaster

CK C

Watching this for maybe 4 to 5 times, still can't feel less heavier 🥹 Still a couple episodes to meet my PTSD again.

sahil signorile

incase you missed it tony. their son was killed by the raiders when the village was attacked. she lied to gardar to give him some confort in his last moments

Isa Naka

oh there's Tony-san 's caption now, thx for it. I still actually doubt the caption 2:20 written yada yada is right though I heard like so. the way of saying yada×3 is something too funny and pretty expression. though accurate using(*´∀`*) anyway, many of us remember and know like...u have said ur a music guy, (at idol eng.ver?maybe directly), so I think u need not care about it. but well, It is very easy-to-understand analogy to me, and I want to watch the video of professor's lecture... though that's naturally impossible😅

Isa Naka

I never spoil as Tonny-san shall know after all. but, there are something makes viewer feel conplicated japanese samurai swards’ curve is differ from completely. ...I'll skip the details as this will get too long, but surely a sword of this shape comes from a country quite far away(knowledge from old RPG guidebook illustrations(○ω○)). Even if it was used in various places, it is completely different from my image of Nordic-speaker or Scandinavian people? but snake's looking and hair color are also different, so I think snake's past is quite unusual. only my delusion... ※sry.,.thinking well, not only Thorls but also Tony has black type hair m(_ _;)m

Levi Blair

I was the guy who wrote the comment you talked about at the end there with how there are parallels even with this era's extremes in hardship and desire for more with ours in the modern day like with moving away from parents/community etc and to really consider whether its worth it and how it's too easy and common for people to overlook both the potential and guaranteed costs. I won't go at length again because its already there and obviously you read it but yeah this anime and its authors message about the reality of what we potentially and often do risk/lose for things like wealth is really powerful and I've very seriously taken it to heart especially after my own experience with my dad going through pancreatic cancer. This story is amazing on its own but it really does have a lot to say and some of it can be hard to fully accept. I hope people take its messages to heart especially the value in having no true enemies and recognizing what you have before deciding a risk or separations possible or known positive outcome is greater than what your potentially and definitely losing. A lot of us have more than we realize and even using the lens of this story to help us be more objective about these things and the choices that impact them is something I think basically everyone could really learn something important from or at least come to a better understanding of.

27:19 i got worried too ^^'''''', i was almost expecting it...
