Hey, everyone!

If you saw our recent ASUS ROG Ally review, we've really had a lot of fun beginning work on handheld reviews. This has furthered a few things outside of handheld testing for us: First of all, it's served as a really controlled use case for our acoustic chamber, so we've had a smaller list of devices that are much simpler to test (there aren't many ways you can use a handheld system, unlike customizable PCs). Having these smaller/controlled test cases allows us to develop processes and charting methods (and just the basic understanding/comprehension skills) to apply toward larger content pieces, like component reviews. But it's also been fun just because this market seems to be doing a lot of cool things right now.

So, since each of these reviews seems to take a month or more for us right now (until we whittle it down to something manageable), we wanted to give our Patreon backers some early thoughts from Patrick. Please keep in mind that none of this is final or polished, so our opinions on this (and technical detail) will develop over the next several weeks and before the main review.

Thank you!

Hey GN! I’m an Ally owner and a moderator of the Discord for /r/ROGALLY and the video is received by the community very well. We too are frustrated by the proprietary XG Mobile port and SD issues but love the performance, screen, and size. I don’t know if we will get any more Ally content from you, but would welcome it. Thanks for the in-depth analysis.

Happy to see yall covering more of these handhelds. I hope GPD sends the Win Mini your way. The discussion in their discord about the thermal limits has been 'interesting.'
