Hey everyone!

We're working on a follow-up for our above-linked RX 480 review! Today, we hope to put together an RX 480 4GB vs. 8GB comparison to determine if an extra 4GB is worth it. Once completed, we'll be working on an RX 480 CrossFire benchmark (actually, Mike is running the tests right now).

As a spoiler, we are seeing nearly 2x scaling in the first game we've tested, which is a lot more than we normally get out of multi-GPU configurations. Granted, some games are still an effective 0% scaling, but that's mostly true for post-FX intensive games. We'll have more on that in the article.

We also just bought a Vive (yes -- bought; ouch.) for VR benchmarking. I haven't cracked it open yet, but should begin working with it in the next week or so.

Thanks for your ongoing support!

- Steve.

AMD RX 480 8GB Review, Overclocking, & Exhaustive Benchmark | Gamers Nexus - Gaming PC Builds & Hardware Benchmarks

AMD's RX 480 launch introduces the Polaris architecture to the world, arranging an alliterative architecture assortment from both GPU vendors ( Pascal, if you're curious, is the other). This is AMD's answer to the largest market segment, shipping in 4GB and 8GB variants that are priced at $200 and $240, respectively.

Hum, I don't suppose you guys are going to test the AiB 480s and compare them with each-other? If not there's plenty of other sites that's testing one or two of them so it's not a big deal. =) But I'm trying to work out what's the best option out of Sapphire Nitro+ (OC and non OC version), PowerColours Red Devil and the Asus Strix. The Asus cooler seems to be getting the best cooling results despite their cooler not being designed for such a small chip (and some of the heatsinks therefore not touching the GPU) On the other hand the Sapphire card seems to be getting the best overclocking results with several people getting about 1420 MHz. That noise though... Also, Sapphire is complaining about AMDs drivers forcing their GPU to be more noisy then it needs to be... All in all I'm in doubt about what card to go for because of all of that... I'm planing to get a 3440x1440 screen and get one initial 480 and then expand the system with another one down the line (I don't mind lower then 30 fps in games for a few months but need to upgrade to a 480 to get playable framerates at all as my R9 285 certainly can't cope, buying and replacing isn't a option)

I'd like to, but so far we've only received the MSI model -- we're supposed to have a PowerColor model on the way. The RX 480 will be a large improvement over the 285. ASUS has not sampled us in some time, so I don't expect any reviews of their cards from us!

Thanks, I appreciate that. =) And yeah, I know. The 285 has served me well, but I'm primarily a linux gamer and it's linux drivers are horrible unlike the 480 that actually had decent launch day drivers on linux. And to top that off it's actually a decent graphics card to boot. =) And with two GPUs I'll be able to run windows in a VM with PCI-e passthrough handing one of the GPUs to windows in a VM while using the other for the Linux desktop on the host OS. Edit: Oh, dear... Looks like I just found a glitch in Patreons website code... One of my favorite emotes two angle brackets with the tips facing eachother... They've forgotten to stop input into these fields from escaping... Apparently that broke the website and sent part of my reply to you into the code... I've contacted them on twitter and facebook. Hopefully they'll check their code... Jeez, this kind of things can be used to hack websites... Not good for a site that deals with money...
