You all may recall, about three months ago, I considered shorting Airbnb due to the ongoing real estate crisis and the noticeable surge in network availability. However, I refrained after discovering through my research that Airbnb earns a 5% return on deposits. For instance, when a booking is made a year in advance, half the payment is upfront, and the remainder is due roughly a month before departure. This practice results in Airbnb holding onto billions of dollars, leading me to believe this 5% could offset any revenue deficits. Despite this, it appears Airbnb is facing challenges, and I now regret not following my initial instinct to short the stock.
