Was asked about this - a quick update on the $BTC to $ETHE (NOT $ETH) pairtrade

As you know, I was excited about the 55% $ETHE discount, and after seeing the discount begin to dissipate, I decided to buy in. When I bought in, 3180 shares of GBTC were equivalent to one bitcoin. Today, that number is down to 2690 shares. At the time of purchase, bitcoin was trading at $28,307 and ETHE was trading at under $8. Today, my ETHE position is worth 36,000 USD, while Bitcoin is trading at 30,300 USD. I am sharing this example to illustrate the concept of pair trading.

Thanks for the update. Are GBTC and ETHE or ETH and BTC really inverse assets? I see them as similar assets.

And this was a BTC into ETHE trade - isn’t that more risky than straight ETH due to ETHE being held by an institution etc?

Love this type of analysis James. I missed this one (joined recently), but look forward to many of these in the future.

Keep it up. I can only trade about half amount. One day I won’t have to work no more patients 🤦‍♂️

Per Grayscale’s website, one share of GBTC equals 0.00090316 BTC. 0.00090316 x 1108 shares equals 1 BTC. Does anyone have any different math? https://grayscale.com/products/grayscale-bitcoin-trust/

What exchange you use for buying BTC, ETHE and swapping. Have vanguard retirement. They don’t offer pure BTC and ETHE. Thanks James

Still worth adding ethe or gbtc at these levels?

Anonymous

Check out James older video and he has sheets that conver btc to gbtc, ethe, mstr and eth

Anonymous

I think so, still early. Bitcoin etf still not passed yet. 2025 is the gold. And then conver to tesla

I need more equity picks i will say. Tsla, crypto proxys and nothing else really stands out. Pypl undervalued imo but not extreme upside.

Where did you buy ETHE?

Anonymous

I use Ameritrade and it's sat the ETHE is otc... does that sound right?

Anonymous

Been buying PYPL since 60. Many think it can double. It seems like the only no-brainer bargain right now

Thanks, James! Very timely. I tried to buy both ETHE and GSOL on Thursday and Friday in my Merrill Lynch account without any success so I put in “limit” orders. We will see what happens tomorrow. I’ll also try E*Trade tomorrow. Any chance of doing a study of brokerage houses? Meaning how retail customer-friendly they are/ or not. Every year I swear I will dump both of them.

Anonymous

Thanks.. I did the same trade and it helped with my average cost basis of ETHE as I held a big bag through crypto winter , but won’t get caught this next cycle. I also just pair trade MSTR for both GBTC and ETHE

Any good stock youtube channel recommendations? Ppl that have been deep in finace/trading for a while. Unlike the iced coffee team lol just saw Jeremy was a fan of pypl yesterday lol

That bid ask spread on GSOL is crazy wide. The prenium is high but my gut tells me that it can 10x (like the other grayscale products did in 2020) as this appears to be the only way for institutions to touch Sol. I personally love LTCN and BCHG (James hates it) as sneaky plays in a big bull market. I am going to DCA into GSOL despite warnings of premium over the next 6 months to see if my thesis plays out. Time will tell

How do you calculate these equivalent values? I’m not chart savvy like you.

Anonymous

Very helpful thank you. I am debating how much of my Roth to put into ETHE. I bought at $9.75, but now at $11 I'm a little hesitant to go in more. I have a weak thesis that, the institutions might want to buy ETH sometime soon or eventually, but it's all a wild guess with no data behind. I sold my Bitcoin proxies recently and need a new place for the cash.

Anonymous

@investanswers James I can't grasp it. You now have more $EHT and more value as you have 3180 shares and its value has gone up? I jubst dont understand this

Anonymous

would love to be involved in trades like this, but 1 cant afford the tools 2, i know little of how to use them, so my bag just sits waiting for btc and alts to go up.

switching to a faster horse makes sense. keep those tap dancing shoes on peeps 🇦🇺🐎☕️

Thanks James. I've watched you for a while and am very interested in the arbitration tactics you use to provide a force multiplier in returns. I just joined and am seeking all the info I can on how you really take advantage of arbitrage opportunities between trading pairs (e.g. eth/btc...etc.).

Where do we buy these proxy's like MSTR GBTC and ETHE ? M Ireland resident

All he is saying is that at the time he traded, foe each BTC coin he got 3180 coins. Today for the same BTC coin (valued at $30,300), his ETHE position is worth 36, 000 dollars.

Regretfully no chance to buy ETHE in Germany - unbelievable

Anonymous

I got that much. But it does not make sense to me at all. Sorry. Thank you for your help. Best

Thanks James, great stuff as always. Have you done any snipe levels for a ETHE/MSTR trading pair?
