I do believe Google will be a top AGI leader ahead of MSFT in the future - that being said I have contemplated a swap of my GOOG for something else.  More on this tomorrow if I pull the trigger.

A quick summary of this is as follows:

  • Google DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis believes that artificial general intelligence (AGI) could be achieved within a few years.
  • AGI is a system in which computers have human-level cognitive abilities.
  • Hassabis says that the progress in AI research has been incredible and that it may even accelerate in the future.
  • He believes that AGI could have a profound impact on society, and that it is important to develop it responsibly.
  • Hassabis says that Google is a responsible actor and that it is committed to developing AGI in a safe and ethical way.
  • He also says that development of AGI will require coordination between researchers, academics, and governments.
  • Hassabis says that he is excited about the potential of AGI and that he believes it could be a force for good in the world.

If google is going to be the leader why swap??

David I had to look it up. When machines are smarter than you it’s time to accept it. I gave up when my mom said to put down the wheelbarrow 😁

Swapped Google for Tesla on the way down... watching for weakness later to enter into a new position, but Tesla looked too good under $170 to not pull pull the trigger 😁

looking forward to your thoughts on this topic as some 💰 need to be placed somewhere... or hold for a little longer 🐎

Had sold my Google for more Tesla.

I already swapped GOOG mid-March 2023 to CLSK because it was going to be faster. and I doubled down when Mr. You Know Who got some LEAPs. Peaked my interest, cant wait to see what you will swap into and whether by mid '25. it would be faster than CLSK.

Nvidia went to CLSK. Was looking too overbought and CLSK can do a 5X far easier than Nvidia could

My fear with AGI is that it will be able to write its own polymorphic malware that will just continuously alter its code to evade detection and avoid removal. this will all happen incredibly fast and who knows what will become of something like that. Unusual times ahead that’s for sure! :)

I wonder if the government could shut this down at some point. How many jobs get replaced because of AI until the government steps in and taxes or bans it?? I would be shocked if the government just stood by did nothing while AI robots took over the workforce. We saw chaos when people had nothing to do because of CoVid. Just my random thoughts.

Nevermind, just having a frustrating day 😂

There will be other countries still willing to go down the AI rabbit whole, follow or getting left behind is the risk.

I agree to an extent, but China regulates everything and doesn’t allow its citizens use the open internet. Just because the tools are available doesn’t mean they need to be in the hands of every person all at once.

If you allow computers leave humans behind then who is actually controlling who? Elon and others have called for a 6 month pause, these tools are exciting but alarming.

"coordination between researchers, academics, and governments." Now there is an untrustworthy group.

My pessimistic side says... we can't even handle social media responsibly. Now we're throwing advanced AI in the mix. Hold on to your butts!

"I would advocate developing these types of AGI technologies in a cautious manner using the scientific method"... what scares me as a software developer is it's more likely to be by the business/sales method--get it out there as fast as possible to beat the competition. Since when are corporations cautious about how they impact the world? Prefer to just pay fines when things go wrong, or avoid accountability completely.

Agree, Elon musk and Geoffrey Hinton (AI OG) are vocal on the need for caution and oversite required as already there are aspects of AI development we can't explain or comprehend usage for so some sort of sand bagging and off switch is key but handle with care can be what saves us all in the long run, double edged sword scerio. We have time to be cautious, with the rate of growth if left uncontrolled then within a few of years it could easily develop AI beyond our understanding and control

Interesting inside info/tweet thread on Google folks saying they have no moat realize the open source community is “eating their lunch”: https://twitter.com/jelleprins/status/1654197249981796358?s=46

Suspense is one while we wait to hear on which faster horse James is thinking to jump :D

I have a big bag of GOOGL as a less risky asset than other I hold. So not looking for the fastest horse of all at this stage :)

No need to worry. VP Harris has been appointed AI Czar. I am sure she has things well in hand, just like her other czar job.

First up on Kamala's staff's docket - explain to the VP what AI stands for.

Once the military industrial complex and governments who back this get involved there will be NO ethical development. That i WILL put money on.

Wait till the military industrial complex get going, ethics and accountability will go out the window.
