What an impressive premiere episode! They accomplished so much plot wise without sacrifice characters, emotions, or pacing. They even left a little crumb that's gonna keep me full of anticipation as we continue the series.

I love that you talked about how good David Tennant and Billie Piper were at playing Cassandra. When people heard that Billie Piper was cast as Rose (before the revival had even started filming), there was a huge backlash. Tennant had done some film, some television, and theatre work with the RSC, but at the time, all Billie was known for was being a mid-level British pop star, having had two number-one songs at the age of 16. I think she had done two bit parts in movies and one TV movie. Fans were, um, hesitant, to say the least. Thank goodness she's *such* a good actor and proved them all wrong. (She has since gone on to win an Olivier Award - the British equivalent of a Tony - and be nominated for countless others.) The actor who actually plays Cassandra is Zoe Wanamaker -- quite an accomplished actor in her own right. Most likely familiar to this audience as Madame Hooch, the Quidditch master in the first Harry Potter film, she has a career that spans 50+ years of stage and screen, including a huge body of work with the Royal Shakespeare Company and the National Theatre, so David and Billie had lots of material to work with, having grown up watching her. Not sure if you missed it or not so forgive me if I'm telling you something you already know, but I think you were talking over the scene early on where Skin!Cassandra is watching a video of the party we see at the end, and says to Chip, "That was the last time somebody told me I was beautiful." So it's a wonderful callback and a fun little twist that she herself gave her that memory.

I'm glad they rolled the dice and hired her even if the audience wasn't initially on board. She's fantastic as rose! Ya know, I actually wasn't talking through that scene (which is kind of surprising actually), but that detail didn't stay with me throughout the episode. I did catch it when I was editing and it made so much sense. Very nice moment. And quite a memorable moment for her even if it hadn't been the last time someone said it. It's wild for a stranger to say you're beautiful and then die in front of you. I bet she thought she just assumed her looks could kill.
