A thrill ride! This movie was everything I’d hoped it would be.

This movie had a very bad reputation for years, and it's easy to see why. It can get downright cartoony, and I especially have a fondness for the scene where everyone acts like mentioning an F5 can summon them like Beetlejuice. Plus, the way that one line about getting corporate sponsors, thrown out by Bill Paxton with a level of disgust as if it involves kicking puppies, is supposed to singlehandedly paint Jonas as irredeemably evil and deserving a violent death. But then it gradually started being looked at better, especially after Paxton's death, where a ton of storm chasers spoke up about how the movie had gotten them interested in it, and they're still grateful that it keeps the profession in the public consciousness. And then they used their radar tracking to spell out his initials across the whole country.

Not related to the film specifically, but can we talk about that soundtrack??? For those of us of a certain age and a rocks and rolls musical persuasion, the 90's was the golden era of film soundtracks. The soundtracks for Natural Born Killers, The Crow, Judgment Night, and Lost Highway (deservedly!) always get mentioned in this regard, but Twister rounds out the top 5. It's an absolute murderers' row of some of the biggest acts of that time. Notably, the last song that Van Halen recorded with Sammy Hagar (Humans Being) was released on this soundtrack, marking the end of their insane 18 years absolutely dominating the airwaves. (Yes, the Cherone album followed and exists, but we don't talk about that abomination in polite company.) Also, back in the late 2000's, one of the major Hollywood prop companies was doing a huge auction for charity and, just for funsies, I snagged one of the hero prop Dorothy sensors with the Pepsi can fins for $75, and it's still on display on a shelf.

Nice find with the prop! Definitely worth displaying. The soundtrack in this movie played a huge factor in how I felt about the film. It was magnificent throughout.
