What a brilliantly paced episode with ever increasing suspense leading to an ending that made my JAW DROP. Twice.

The preview at the end of Boom Town openly showed the Daleks, which is why I warned you not to watch it when it looked like you'd be watching them at all. And oh my, were the fans upset, which is why they've been moved to after the end credits ever since. Davies acknowledged even at the time that doing such direct parodies of three big hit shows was likely to age horribly, and I imagine a lot of people these days wouldn't get the stuff around The Weakest Link and What Not To Wear ("Yeah, it's an android. Why are you so surprised when they said that's what it was?", when the joke is actually that it's the "Anne droid," as in Weakest Link host Anne Robinson), though Big Brother has proven to have a lot more staying power, which is convenient since it's the one whose big catchphrase the Doctor quotes at the end: "I'm coming to get you." Davies was also quite dismayed that the fans mostly took the episode to be attacking the shows for being so soulless, when in fact he loved them all and thought he was paying them a compliment.

The Inedible Mattman!

Yasssssss!!! This is what Doctor Who does ... it builds it to these huge moments, and just blows us out of the water! The Daleks have returned, the Doctor has no hope, and the Earth is at stake. Can he do it? Can he stop the Daleks, save the Earth, and still make it out alive???? Welcome to why this is the best show of all time. It never stops being this epic. LET'S FREAKING GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Oh man, I never even went back to look, but I would have been so mad if I knew the Dalek's were coming before even starting the episode!!! The Weakest Link is still on, I saw my dad watching it not too long ago. I definitely haven't heard of What Not To Wear, assuming that's where Jack was lol.

Although it aged terribly, it actually didn't at the same time. Big Brother just had a come back, and in the US (which premiered their Big Brother the same year as the UK) they are currently wrapping up their 25th season. Anne Robinson (the Anne Droid) actually hosted the US version of the Weakest Link too initially although I think now it's Jane Lynch. The cool thing is they got the actual TV hosts from the UK shows (including what not to wear) to play their android counterparts. Also the EDM like music used in the big brother sequences is the actual UK big brother theme music. Considering that's a different "network" to the BBC, I'm impressed they got the rights to it. You started off by saying how it was so nice to have a light hearted episode and that you really needed that after the latest BG episode. I literally said out loud to myself "oh no, you are gonna be so messed up when Rose "dies" just as the Doctor walks in." And sure enough you looked absolutely distraught! I'm glad it all worked out in the end though. OK so just to add further confusion to an already confusing naming convention. Classic Who from 1963 to 1989 was referred to as Season 1 through Season 26. NuWho which started in 2005 and up until now has run until 2022 (no new episodes have aired so far this year) is considered Series 1 through Series 13. We have some specials airing this year, then the next regular episode to air is going to be, series 14 episode 1? NOPE, it's going to be SEASON 1, episode 1. They are doing a reset. A 3rd act. A new joining point. And moving back to calling it seasons. So as you wrap up Series 1, we are preparing for Season 1... again! 😂😂

Doctor Who heavy hits different than BSG heavy for me, at least right now. lol Watching these finale episodes were such a joy. Also I heard about the new "era" and starting with season 1. It's so crazy! It kind of makes me feel like I started at the right time-- like if I wanted I have a natural stopping point. But I mean, does one "stop" Who? I don't think so. Of course, I'm still a couple years from that point anyway. Although I oddly am already kind of dreading the day I actually catch up for some reason. It'll feel weird. Do I start watching live? Do I wait til the end of the seasons and then do it all at once? These are the questions that I don't need to ask, yet I can't help it. 😅

I do think resetting the series is quite a clever idea, especially outside of the UK where new episodes will be exclusive to Disney+. I can imagine for a curious newbie logging in and seeing Series 14 Episode 1, and not a single episode of what came before would be quite a turn off for them. First it's daunting to think you have 13 series to catch up on, and secondly, you have to find another way to watch them. As for stopping Doctor Who, there are some people who get so attached to a particular Doctor, or just can't get on board with a particular Doctor that they stop watching the show. Personally I think the show gets stronger and stronger, and once you are on the train, it's difficult to jump off. Enjoy the journey!

Absolutely! I can't imagine "series 14" attracting new fans at all, but I sure hope the "new nu who" brings in a ton of new fans. It seems like it's about to explode. So long as it doesn't suck 😅
