What an amazing episode! Two primary storylines are propelled forward in exciting and unexpected ways. Gripping battle scene on Kobol and always engaging political conflict on the Galactica. We need Commander Adama to come help us out of this mess, ASAP.

BSG Viewing Order?

So I've been doing a small amount of research trying to avoid spoilers to determine viewing order. This is what I came up with, feel free to offer thoughts or suggest changes.

  • Season 2
  • The Resistance Webisodes
  • Season 3
  • Razor*
  • Season 4 (1-11)
  • The Face of the Enemy Webisodes
  • Season 4 (12-15)
  • The Plan**
  • Season 4 (16-19)
  • Caprica***
  • Blood & Chrome***

*Razor

Some watch orders suggest after season 2 as it takes place during that time, but those who suggest that also imply you should MUTE it at a couple key dialoge points or risk changing the tone of season 3. I don't think I even want to try to remember to mute it, so my inclination is to watch it where it was released.

**The Plan

Most watch orders seem to put it here, while most commenters on youtube have said to watch it at the end of the series. I think if it fits here without spoiling the final episodes it would be fun to take a break from what I'm sure is an accelerating thurst into the ending to look back at the other side before the final conclusion.

***I make no promises to watch Caprica or Blood & Chrome, but who knows!

I sure missed you last week! Tuesday mornings are starting to be my little tradition. I also missed Ryan's excellent facts about the series too. I hope that you don't mind that I'm not really adding anything to the discussion, but appreciating how much your commentary took me back to watching this for the first time, unlike doing my own rewatch would have done. Think of me as adding the color commentary rather than the facts. It made me specifically remember the official Sci Fi boards after this episode aired. There was one person who was a very good comic style artist and from then on, Calle was always drawn with a big smile standing next to a toothbrush that was taller than her and known as Dental Assistant Calle because of her dental school comment. Because this is such a good episode, I kept waiting for the good parts to see how you would react. Especially Baltar's shot and the call for martial law. The whole system of being an officer in the as apposed to someone like Chief has always bugged me. I know that it comes down to which jobs require University or not, but here is how I always looked at it. I compare it to hospital nurses who might have 30+years experience in their field and can run circles around the brand new doctors fresh out of school each year, but one will always be higher ranked over the other despite experience or aptitude. That's Chief vs Crashdown.

Just being here is a wonderful addition! I loved Calle's dental school comment and it was the hardest thing to cut from the edit 😭 but keeping it extra tight and short is a requirement to pass copyright with this show. BUT there were so many great moments in this one and just overall it was a very tight episode that built momentum throughout brilliantly.

You described Chief vs Crackdown brilliantly. Crash had the rank, but Chief had the experience. It's wildly difficult to remember how little experience a lot of the crew has.

The shoot-out between Chief and the Cylons is staged very similarly to the final battle in Saving Private Ryan: the Chief (Tom Hanks' stand-in) firing and firing and firing at something far bigger than he could ever hope to demolish with his gun, but it surprise!explodes anyway - he looks at his weapon in disbelief for a moment before realizing there is air cover overhead and they are the ones who blew it up. The guy who directed "Fragged" was the First Assistant Director on Saving Private Ryan. As they say -- if you're gonna steal, steal from the best!

That's so great! I think I'm going to add saving private ryan to my schedule for a Veteran's Day release. I feel like I saw it, but outside of a couple of images that stuck because they were identical to Medal of Honor: Frontline, I have no real memory.

Oh my gosh, I thought you had already seen it! I thought I remembered it on your channel. I'm so sorry that I spoiled you - I feel terrible.

lol was that a spoiler for SPR? I just figured you were mostly talking about the episode. My comprehension skills are lacking today, tbh. Many many copyright claims. I don't feel spoiled. At any rate, since I'm not watching it until at least October, you're fine
