Tutorial: Uploading your own Webtoon! (Patreon)
Content
Hello everyone!! This is another requested tutorial, during which I’ll explain to you how to upload your own comic on Webtoon~! 😎 This procedure is quite easy so this will most likely be a small tutorial!
Starting off, after you log into your account click on “publish” and then at “Create series“. Note that you can’t upload a new series or any new episodes through the app, but only through a web browser.
This will redirect you to a new page in which you’ll have to submit some basic information of your Webtoon. To be more precise, you have to add:
- The genres of your Webtoon: The first genre is your primary one while the second one is your secondary. Depending on your choice, your Webtoon will appear on the according categories on the Canvas section whenever you upload.
To give you an example, the genres of Boy Girlfriend are Romance (1st) and Comedy (2nd). The first one should describe the main focus of your story while the second one should describe some other elements of it. Don’t stress too much about making the right choice because in the future you can always go back and change your Genres! - Next is the story title and summary of your Webtoon. Try to make both of them catchy, straight to the point and short and you’ll be good to go~!
- Finally, there’s your Webtoon‘s thumbnail! They may say “Don’t judge a book by it‘s cover” but I ASSURE you that’s what almost everyone does :’) And if you add to that the countless amount of Webtoons that are being uploaded every minute, if you wanna stand out, your cover should be your proudest work 😎.
Square thumbnail size: 1080x1080
Vertical thumbnail size: 1080x1920
I recommend to start by drawing a vertical thumbnail at least twice as big in size (so you can have it in a better quality) and then downsize it to 1080x1080. Then you can crop the vertical image to make your square thumbnail, upload them both on Webtoon and you’re done! (If the image is more than 500KB there are lots of online sites in which you can shrink the image’s size without a visible effect on it‘s quality)
After that you’re done creating your new series and you can proceed to add new episodes! (Dashboard > Add episode)
Every episode requires a title and a thumbnail!
- Episode thumbnail size: 160x151
(the pixels can change, but the ratio should be the same)
- Episode‘s image files size: 800 x Whatever you want
The pages of your comic should be 800px wide but the length is irrelevant. So for example, you can make an illustration of 800x10.000 that contains all your panels and dialogue and simply upload it to Webtoon and you’re done. That’s because Webtoon recently added the feature of slicing the comic pages by it‘s own so now all you really have to do is insert as many 800px wide images as you want and leave everything else to Webtoon!
After uploading your pages, you can leave a creator’s note and publish your episode either immediately or schedule it for another date or time!
VERY IMPORTANT!!!
Before you hit upload, make sure to click at either “preview Pc” or “preview mobile” to read the episode you’re about to upload and check that all the pages are placed correctly and in order!
✅ AND YOU’RE DONE! ✅
