A mini tutorial here for your for CAS cc that don't seem to work with custom skintones using Sims 4 Studio - for creators and downloaders.

We LOVE our cc makeup and tats, amiright?! But we also LOVE our custom skintones. There are some amazing ones out there, and we want it all to work together!

So, it's not that they don't work, or that they conflict, but there are a couple of numbers in Sims 4 Studio that you can change to make the otherwise seemingly-not-working-cc work properly.

Once I show you, you can decide to either increase the numbers in the makeup, or lower the numbers in the skintones.

There are 2 numbers to look at. One is called Composition Method, and the other is Sort Layer. Changing these can be very time consuming because you have to adjust each swatch individually, but so worth it in the end. I have explained 2 ways to do this below. Creators looking at this, do this with your first swatch before you add new swatches and it will carry over!

These two values are located in the Warehouse tab of Sims 4 Studio. Click on any CAS Part line, and look over in the right hand window which has all the settings. There are pics attached to show you where the values are.

The composition method should be set to 0.

The sort layer is more complicated.

  • this will depend on what the custom skintone sort layer level the original creator put in their package.
  • you can go into their package in S4S (Sims4Studio) and look at their numbers
  • or you can pick an arbitrary number you hope works lol

A lot of custom skintone creators raise their Sort Layer so that it is visible no matter what. And that's cool. But then we can lose a lot of our makeup and tats. So if you've looked in the skintone package and checked their Sort Layer number, just make the one in the makeup/tats higher.

Alternatively, you can lower the one in the skintone package, but I wouldn't really recommend this simply because you could then lose the skintone under other things. Your choice, though! You'll figure out what works best for you, especially if you have a lot of makeup to resort.

For example, let's say the skintone's Sort Layer is 9000. You would then make the makeup's/tat's Sort Layer 9001 or higher. You do have to do this for each swatch, so like I said, it can be very time consuming.

Alternatively, under the Studio tab, and then Textures, you can export all the extra swatches into a set folder and then remove them from the package, leaving just one in the package. You can also use the awesome cheat in S4S to export all the textures at once. It's the same as in game, you hit CTRL + SHIFT +C, then type in studio.exportall, then remove all the swatches except one. Be aware that this will also export other files like the specular, but you can just ignore those.

Either way you do it, you would then go into the one CAS Part left in the Warehouse tab, and adjust the numbers as necessary. Then go back into the Studio tab and Textures, and re-add the swatches. The numbers from the first one will carry forward.

Also note, if you put your eyeliner Sort Layer lower than eye shadow, it will hide under the eye shadow! So make sure eyeliner is higher.

Save the package, put it back in your Mods folder after ensuring the original is removed, and enjoy your makeup and tats! This works with anything you would find under the Makeup tab and Tattoos in CAS.

Happy sorting!
