Glad you are feeling a lot better, hope you are back to yourself soon :) I am really liking the intros to these episodes, getting so much context and backstory to these characters, which is probably sorely needed when most of the rest is each character in drama the whole time. Seb: "God he's tall" says the person 1 inch smaller than him 😂 Nate is an interesting one, we really don't get anything real from him so can't figure him out. He was very clever this episode so he's definitely capable of coming up with some plans. Nate's dad was pretty interesting this episode, feel like we connected with him a bit more and maybe he's not as bad as he seemed personality wise. There is so much sex with underage girls in this show though, I dunno if it's meant to seem that way or not with some of them as I know a lot of teen shows brush it off. That's why I'm also a bit split on how Kat is doing, as she is basically only doing sexual stuff with guys who are adults so could argue regardless of her confidence with it, she is being taken advantage of. I guess it's also a thing of is her new found confidence a reality or it just holds up so long as she is being sexually pursued by any guy. If she is only gaining it through sex, then she might not realise that she is being taken advantage of even if she is initiating a decent amount. That's a very complicated subject though of confidence and sexuality and to be desirable and how they interconnect and whether it's healthy or not.

Jules and Rue, not sure what is going on right now with that. I wasn't too sure what Jules' reaction was about. I was thinking maybe she realised that she was the reason for Rue doing well, which is actually a lot of pressure on someone. Rue is wanting to spend a ton of time with her as well. Jules with her own depressive issues she probably now feels like if she doesn't help Rue then maybe Rue will go down a dark path and it will have been her fault. I feel like it's almost inevitable that they will have some sort of fight and Rue will leak her secret to someone, who knows what happens then. I'm also not sure if Rue narrating at the start is supposed to be gospel truth or not since she mentioning Nate questioning his sexuality. Guess we will have to see on that

Even though I personally have never had a drug addiction, I know full well that you’re not supposed to hang your sobriety on another person; you’re supposed to want to get clean for yourself. That’s the point Ali (Colman Domingo’s character) is trying to make for Rue and, to an extent, I think he’s right to do so. Relationships, especially for young people, can feel like a drug. And before you know it, it can make one of the people so dependent on it that they cannot function without it. Jules is becoming increasingly aware of Rue’s dependence and is pulling away. The same can be said for Maddy/Nate’s relationship. Maddy thought she was the one in control, when in reality she became dependent on his attention and allowed his treatment of her to reach toxic levels. ***Now I said “relationships” can feel like a drug and not “love” because IMO actual love shouldn’t feel like that (not that I would know but I would hope that wouldn’t be the case 🤞🏽😅)

I think Jules is feeling a lot of pressure in her friendship/relationship with Rue. Everyone around her is telling her how good she is for Rue. She loves Rue but I don't think Jules has had a relationship like with Rue before. She may have but I don't think it's ever said. At any rate, I think by this point Jules is feeling weighted down by the implied responsibility of Rues sobriety. Jules is Rue's anti-drug. Ali is trying to teach Rue that relationships are fragile, and while it is good that Rue is doing better, if she "replaces" drugs with Jules, then if/when something happens to Jules, Rue will turn back to drugs. Jules is starting to see that too, and that is a lot of pressure for a teenager.

you missed it when lexi said to jules "you know it's cause of you" insinuating that she's the reason for rue's sobriety. and that's why jules felt overwhelmed at the skating rink and after in the last scene i think she's just worried about if she leaves or disappoints rue she will relapse.

Just started this show this past Friday and watched the first 4 episodes, then realized you were doing these so it's the first ever thing I was also watching for the first time. I very much appreciate and identify with that you laugh at things that shouldn't be funny lol Also weird that Zendaya's character actually seems to be doing the best at this point even though it started off with her having the worst issue

Remember to watch the special episodes before season 2!!

2022-03-13 19:52:11 Very chill episode. Maddie really has a lot of work to do on herself and her idea of love. I have to remember that she's supposed to be 17 in the show and that plays a lot in her regards to entertaining that relationship with Nate. Great reaction as always Seb! xoxo <3
