Sony released the world's first portable CD player, the D-5/D-50, at a  time when mostly just audiophiles had adopted the format. But  surprisingly (or not), the device had much broader appeal.

I've still got mine stored, and has that integrated AC adapter/RCA breakout unit. I didn't know it was the first! Has seen better days with some scuff and a cracked top lid but I used it for many years and it still works (ed in 2019 at least) perfectly.

Same here. A friend of mine donated me this unit about a year ago along with the breakout accessory. The player doesn't work (I think the lens needs alignment) but for now it's on display :)

Hello Colin, I got some vintage CD players and I am always surprised how well they sound. Especially those from 80’s and 90’s when they are plugged in decent headphones. I’m just to scared to start refurbishment... The format you use with the history of the product is very fascinating ! Awesome work, as always... Take good care!
