The first thing that hit her was the smell.

Lilly felt herself stir as a most wondrous smell filled her nose. The smell of baked goods was wondrously familiar to her, and filled her with a sense of wanting. It was not just any scent that permeated through the blonde though.

“Blueberries…” she muttered to herself.

It was then that she heard a noise of what sounded like cheering, and the edge of a chair against her back as her other senses caught up. The feeling of a hand on her shoulder startled her, until she recognized the familiar touch of her husband.

Before she had time to think, a voice boomed over what sounded like an intercom. “Welcome one and all, ladies and gentlemen, to our much awaited blueberry pie eating contest!!” Lilly could feel Hisao’s other hand on her other shoulder now as he began rubbing her back.

“You can do this Lilly, I believe in you.” He whispered into her ear.

Do what? She wondered to herself, and made to stand up before finding herself hitting against a table and falling back to her chair. ‘What the…?’

Her hands reached forwards and patted the table several times before she felt the warmness of the baked good placed right in front of her.

‘Is this… Am I…’ but before she could continue the though, the loudspeaker interrupted once more.

“Alright folks! Let’s get this show underway!” It shouted to a roaring applause and cheers. “Remember contestants, the rules are simple. Whoever eats the most pies within the next ten minutes wins! Each contestant has a partner which will grab the pies for them once they finish. Only fully finished pies will count, and the winner will achieve our grand prize! You have water if you need, and you can use utensils, but remember, every second counts! Are we ready!?”

The crowd cheered loudly as Lilly began to protest. “Wait a second.” Lilly said, her hand going to Hisao’s. “I don’t really-”

GO!

A pistol shot exploded into the air causing Lilly to jump, and before she knew it she was shoving her face into her pie.

The taste of the blueberries instantly filled her mouth, quickly sliding down her throat as she swallowed. She could feel the juices splash around her face, but she found that for some reason she simply didn’t care as she chomped and chomped away at the pie. Before she even realized, it seemed the pie was gone, and Hisao was yanking the pie tin from under her and replacing it with another with a shout of encouragement.

“Holy cow folks, give it up for our amazing contestants this year! Contestants 3, 6, and 10 over on the edge have finished their first pies and are on to the second!”

Lilly felt a bit of pride well up inside of her and tucked in to the second pie with gusto. Despite herself, she found herself having fun. “Go Lilly! You can do this, come on!!” Hisao cheered from beside her.

The pie tasted as amazing as the first had, and her jaw chomped as if it had a mind of its own. She went in heavily, each bite filling her mouth and throat before sliding down to her stomach. Again, extraordinarily quickly, she found herself with an empty pie tin. She picked her head up and licked at her juice covered lips as she felt Hisao take the pie away, replacing it with another full pie. Lilly could hear the crowd cheering, the announcer giving commentary, but she couldn’t listen to it as she just focused on eating pie after pie after pie.

Again, she found herself licking an empty pie tray which Hisao pulled from her to replace. As he did so, she felt a strange feeling in her stomach, which she dismissed immediately given that she’d now eaten four full pies. The pie beneath her was replaced, and she bit down into it again. She gripped the table with her hands as she pulled herself down into the pie, feeling her stomach pressing up to the edge of the table. The plastic table moved slightly as she pushed herself further, it digging deeper into her, but she hardly even noticed as she cleaned the tin of her fifth pie.

“Wow, Lilly, you’re on fire!” Hisao exclaimed as he pulled the tin out and replaced it.

Lilly stifled a burp with her hand. That last pie had made her feel funny, as if her mouth was still full even though she had finished it. She pushed the thought away as the next pie was placed ahead of her, and placed her head into the tin to chew through it.

After her sixth pie, Lilly was definitely slowing down. She could feel her stomach packed tightly with the pies, and she felt as if she was sort of bloated, but what could she expect after eating so much?

A buzzer brought her back to the reality as she felt the emptied tin beneath her tongue.

“We have a winner! Contestant number ten, with 7 pies, has won first place!!”

The crowd cheered as Lilly felt Hisao raise her hand, her other one going to rub her overinflated stomach.

“Swing by the booth later to claim your prize, folks!”

Lilly felt Hisao tug her chair backwards. “Here,” he said, and she suddenly felt a napkin against her face as he wiped at the juices that must have been covering her. He laughed, “You really impressed me, I had no idea you could eat that much.”

“Neither did I.” Lilly replied, a bit dazed. Something felt off, even though she had finished eating she still felt as if she were swallowing more and more pie.

“Hmmm… You’ve got this spot on your nose, it won’t come… is it growing??”

Hisao rubbed at her face furiously with the napkin as Lilly felt a bit of worry in her voice. “What do you mean, growing?”

“Your nose… It’s turning… blue?”

Hisao sounded more amazed than panicked, but that was all Lilly felt as she raised her hand to her face.

“What do you mean?? Blue?”

“It’s your whole face now… Excuse me, judge?”

Lilly heard Hisao step away, and her hand went to her face. She felt a little bit sticky around her face, but that had to be from the pies. The rest of her face felt fine! How could she be turning blue?

“Oh my god…” Hisao’s voice said. “Her whole face has turned blue!”

“Oh geeze, she must have finished too many of the pies. This sometimes happens,” another man said in a placating voice. “We’ll take care of it straight away, Mr. Nakai.”

“Take care of what??” Lilly shouted.

“You’re blue!” Hisao exclaimed. “Why is she blue!?”

The man, the judge Hisao must have brought over, began speaking but was interrupted by a sudden loud gurgle that Lilly only realized after a moment was coming from herself.

“What’s happening to me!!?”

She stood up from her chair and almost immediately tipped over. She was barely able to catch herself on the table in front of her, but had to right herself immediately as she felt her legs widening. Her balance was so thrown off that she had to place her feet shoulder with apart. “I told them we should have used cherry pies…” the judge trailed off.

Lilly could feel her stomach widening now, pushing forward against her shirt and pants. It took her a moment to realize that she wasn’t simply swelling in her stomach, but outwards at every point. Her back and sides were also pressing out, as were her widening arms and thighs.

“Hey! Where are you going!?” Hisao shouted.

Lilly’s hands pushed against her widening frame. She couldn’t believe, simply couldn’t believe, that this was actually happening to her. First she had turned blue, and now this? She felt such a weird and cool sensation filling her body as she swelled, and the gurgling from her continued unabashed. How could this be happening to her?

“To get some help, she’ll need a team to take her to the winner’s booth.” The judge responded as he walked away.

“Now hang on a sec!” Hisao shouted, going after him.

Slowly, Lilly’s arms were pushed outwards and she felt herself become unable to bend them at the elbows anymore to push against herself. “Hisao??” Lilly called out. Her voice sounded different to her. “Hisao? Are you there?” with each word, she could feel her face jiggle, and realized her cheeks and face must have swollen too. Miserably, she swayed on her feet before quickly deciding that was a bad idea as she nearly tipped over. She began to fear that if she fell, she wouldn’t be able to get back up.

Every seconded that passed seemed to be an eternity to Lilly. Try as she might to bend her arms, she simply couldn’t, and began to flap her hands when she realized that she could actually feel something again. Something warm and round to the touch beneath her hands, and that was slowly creeping outwards inch by inch.

‘Oh my god…’ She thought, the horror of realization displayed on her face. ‘This is me.’ She shifted her weight again, and found that as she did, she could feel some sort of sensation between her feet. Horror struck the blue colored woman as she realized that not only could she not bend her knees, she could actually feel the ground with her body between her legs. She must be huge! She gripped her expanding sides and was about to start crying when she began to realize that she had seemed to stop growing. The fabric beneath her hands was pulled taught over her expanded form, and Lilly prayed that the rest of her was as covered as well as her top was.

The faint breeze she felt on her stomach told her that she wasn’t.

“Hi Mrs. Lilly!” shouted a small and familiar voice.

“Rai??? Is that you??” Lilly called out, feeling her cheeks jiggle as she spoke. She tried looking towards the other woman, but felt her chin dig into her own taught body.

“Yup, I’m over here!” she called from a position off to Lilly’s left. Lilly tried to adjust herself, flapping her hands as she waddled her feet in order to turn herself, and faced the speaker.

“Oh thank goodness. Do you know where Hisao has gone?” Lilly asked. Far past the mood for pleasantries and almost on the verge of tears, Lilly held tight to the belief that her husband could get her out of this.

“He’s over in the winner’s booth!” Rai shouted from behind her. Lilly perked up and tried to turn her head, but could only turn it so far as her body simply wouldn’t allow her to look all the way around.

“Rai, please stay still.” Lilly said, and she began turning her feet to to the left

“I am staying still!” shouted Rai again, and this time Lilly could hear a multitude of laughter coming from all around her. She froze, halting her pivoting process.

“R-Rai?” Lilly called

“You know, Mrs. Lilly, they say you are what you eat, but I thought that was just a simile!” Said Rai from directly ahead of her.

“You mean metaphor, dummy.” Came another Rai, this one from her left. “You must really love blueberries if you wanna be one so badly.” She said to Lilly.

“W-what is going on?” Lilly asked, panic filling her voice again.

“You should really have figured it out by now.” Said a Rai to her left.

“Oh come on, she’s probably freaked out. It’s not like she can see how big and blue she is.” A Rai from behind her replied.

Lilly felt a finger poke into her stomach from the front. ‘Is that my stomach still?’ Her mind thought distractedly, refusing to comprehend her situation.

“Well, to put it simply. You’ve become a giant Blueberry.” The Rai in front of her said, happily.

“B-but I don’t… What?” Lilly said. She gripped her hands in frustration. “That’s not possible, I can’t be a Blueberry!” She exclaimed.

“Seems pretty possible to me!” said the Rai to her left, who placed her hand on Lilly’s side and pushed.

“Woah woah woah!!” Lilly exclaimed as she began to lose her balance, only to feel a pair of hands to her right grab and steady her. Her weight rested entirely on her right foot, and she could feel her skin beginning to envelop it as it all pushed down towards the ground.

“Hey, be nice. You’re dealing with a winner here!” Shouted the Rai that had caught her, and she lifted Lilly back to being stable on both feet.

Lilly waved her hands as she steadied herself, and she realized that she could feel liquid sloshing around inside her as she had swayed back and forth.

“But I don’t want to be a Blueberry.” Lilly said miserably. She felt tears ebb over her eyes as she realized that was just what she had become. She was a big fat blueberry filled with juice that could barely pivot, much less walk.

“Don’t worry, we’ll take care of you!” The Rai from behind exclaimed. She placed both her hands on her back. “Go ahead!” she shouted.

“Yea,” said the one in front. “We make sure to take special care of our Blue ribbon winners.” Lilly felt four sets of hands on her now as the Rai’s began to tilt her onto her back.

“No! NO! What are you doing!!?” Lilly shouted, helplessly swatting at her aggressors in a fruitless effort as they rolled her onto her back. Lilly’s feet left the ground and still she felt herself sloshing as they gently but firmly placed her onto her side. She could feel her hair touching the ground beneath her as she lay all but helpless, unable to even rock her giant spherical body against the grip of the small women.

“Come on girls!” said one of the Rai’s. “Let’s bring the Blueberry to her pedestal! To the giant fruit of the fair!”

Hands pushed against Lilly’s side and she began rolling side over side, and she could tell she was being spun down towards the Earth and then up towards the sky again, her hair flipping into her face as she began to scream.

Lilly awoke with a start. She felt as if her body had been touched with an electric bolt, and instantly felt the need to stop laying on her back.

She sat up and instantly regretted it as her head attacked her with a splitting headache. She fell back into a laying position groaning, covering her head with a pillow.

Her right hand reached out and harshly gripped the covers where her husband usually slept, but they were empty.

‘He’s probably already gone for his… oh no, I had wanted to go with today…’ “Uuggghhhhh.” she moaned, her head splitting.

‘I drank too much yesterday. Oh goodness, what time is it!? Have I overslept!?’

Lilly’s left hand reached out to grab her phone. She hit the button that read would through her display, and with an earsplitting bleep that cracked her eardrums, the voice read out “The time is 9:05am.”

‘Ohnonono, I missed-’ The robotic voice cut her out though. “You have TWO new messages and 1 archived message. First message from Rai Kato BLLEEEPP:” Lilly grabbed her hand over the pillow and flipped it over herself again.

“Hey Lilly, it’s Rai. Sorry about leaving early tonight. My sister, wanted to take a vacation for the weekend, and my mom flipped. She was even worse when I agreed with her… But good news is I’ll be having a friend over for the weekend! You just have to meet her. I’ll see you in class tomorrow, good night!”

‘Ugh… oops…’ Lilly thought to herself. Classes had already begun, and while she did have the first period off, there was no way she could make it in time. “Message two from Hisao BLLLEEEPP:

Lilly resisted the urge to throw the phone across the room as Hisao’s voice came on.

“Good morning, my lovely flower.” He said, perkily. She groaned. “I took the liberty,” he continued, “of calling in sick for you today. Something tells me that you’re going to need a few more hours’ beauty sleep today before you can get up. I’ll come home for lunch though, and I’ll try to bring Rai, if she’s here. Something tells me she might have gotten roped up in that empty wine bottle on the counter last night.” She could almost hear the smug in his voice as he laughed. Then his voice quieted down, and she had to take the pillow off to hear him. “I’ve left one of Akira’s ‘cure alls’ on the kitchen counter for you. I hope you feel better, Angel.” He whispered. “I love you very much.” With that, the phone clicked, and the message ended. Lilly pressed the button on the side to clear all new messages before the machine could even ask, and it gave a chirp of acknowledgment.

“Play archived message?”

Lilly’s finger absently hit the affirmation button, as she had done every time she’d gotten messages since she archived it.

“Good morning, my love.” Spoke Hisao’s soft voice. Lilly found herself smiling, and the headache seemed to draw back the slightest bit. “When you listen to this, it will be the first morning of our marriage.” He said. “Right now, I’m lying next to you, brushing my fingers through your long beautiful hair as you lay sleeping.” She could almost feel his hand in her hair now, and her smile widened. “I want you to know, though, that this morning is not actually all that special. Because since I’ve met you, since that first night we slept besides one another in Yamaku, I’ve never stopped picturing you as my wife. You’ve been mine since that day, just as I have been yours. And I will be yours, now, and forever. I love you, Lilly.”

Lilly had curled up around her phone grinning widely to herself as the message played out, her migraine momentarily forgotten.

For all of his faults, she loved Hisao. She loved him far more than she had ever thought possible, and she would continue to love him.

‘Now, and forever.’
