After a short walk, Hisao and Lilly arrive at the front of the school just as the Monday opening bell rang. Most of the students were already headed towards their opening classes, having about 5 minutes until classes began. They quickly found themselves in the empty opening hall as the last students trickled into the building. Hisao wasn’t thinking about class though, he was still thinking about his body pushed up against his wife’s plush form as he felt her arm finally slip from his.

“Are you all prepared for your classes today?” Lilly asked.

Hisao’s mind snapped back to reality and off of Lilly’s growing ‘assets’.

“Oh, umm, yea.” He replied. “We’re doing metabolisms today, and I’m thinking of making a project for ‘workout journals’. Have them try to write down all of their workouts for a few weeks to show calorie burning too. You’re going to the lounge to grab stuff for the class, right?”

“That’s correct!” Lilly said excitedly. “We’re going to need paper plates and utensils, as well as a knife to cut it. I know somebody who should be there too, so getting it all won’t be a problem… You know,” Lilly laughed softly, “You should try that workout journal! I’d love to know how in the world you’re able to get up so early every day to do those kinds of things.”

Hisao smirked, knowing of his wife’s tendency for hard mornings. “Oh, just optimistic I guess.” He steps closer before softly saying, “What can I say, I can’t wait to wake up to such a wonderful women.”

Lilly blushed slightly, but smiled coyly. That was when Hisao noticed the bits of frosting still upon her lips from her breakfast buffet. What happened next, Hisao didn’t really think beforehand, he just acted. Hisao’s hands firmly grasped around his wife, and planted his lips on hers. Lilly hesitated, but just for a moment before kissing him back in full. He kissed her fiercely, and when he pulled away she was actually short of breath.

“That,” he whispers, “was for this morning.”

She smiles and playfully shoves him with her free hand, whiping slightly at her mouth. “Go on to class,” she said giggling, “we’ll have more time for that later.”

He laughed. “Have a good time. I hope everybody loves it!”

Lilly turned and started walking towards the far end of the school. Hisao couldn’t help but stare as her hips swayed back and forth, her thighs pressing against one another as she walked with a bit of extra pep in her step.

Rai Kato was having a fantastic morning. She had woken up early, before her alarm, and had a great cup of coffee. She was very much enjoying living on her own, not having to answer to her brothers or make the entire family breakfast, choosing instead to just grab some toast to go with her breakfast and head out the door. She arrived to school extremely early, preferring to spend the first hour free in the teachers’ longue by herself.

Rai wasn’t the most sociable person, but not exactly from lack of trying. She liked being around people, and she loved teaching, but she didn’t have very many friends, generally preferring to be quieter and to keep to herself. She had recently left home to move to this area to student teach for the school, owing much to Mr. Hoshimoto for allowing her a position. She wanted to eventually teach some form of History course, but due to lack of open positions she had to accept a position as a teacher’s aide for a newer teacher, Mrs. Nakai. She couldn’t help compare herself to the slightly older woman, with them not having much in common. Rai reflected on this for some reason this morning as she poured herself a cup of freshly made tea, looking in the mirror at herself.

Mrs. Lilly was plenty nice, to be sure, but it was odd to be associated with someone who was just so… foreign seeming. Rai had shoulder length red hair that she had recently dyed, her eyes were a goldnish hazel, and she was short as well. Standing at only 5’1, Rai sometimes felt that Lilly practically towered over her at nearly 5’10. Lilly also had something Rai lacked, something all too obvious as Rai looked down at herself and her lack of chest. “Flat as a board,” one of her ex-boyfriends had called her, and it was true. There likely wasn’t a pound of fat on her body, and one of the things she envied most about her superior was her curvy figure. Rai felt she looked more like a teenager than a 22 year old student-teacher.

The door to the teachers’ longue creaked open and Rai spun to look upon the intrusion to see the subject of her thoughts enter the room.

“Rai,” Lilly asked, “are you in here?”

“Umm, yes Mrs. Nakai.” Rai responded.

Lilly pouted slightly. “Rai, I told you, please call me Lilly. You’ll make me feel ancient if you refer to me that way.” She smiled kindly at Rai, who stammered in response.

“Oh, sorry! I’m just still not that used to this ha-ha,” she nervously laughed.

“That’s fine.” Lilly said calmly. “I was wondering if you could actually do me a favor this morning.”

“Um, yes Lilly.” Rai said, forcing herself to use her first name. “What can I do for you?”

It was then that Rai noticed what Lilly carried in her other hand. She held a rather large pie covered in aluminum foil. The pie was huge! It must have been nearly a foot length, bigger than some cakes that Rai had seen.

Lilly sniffed at the air slightly. “Have you made tea?” She asked.

“Oh! How impolite of me, can I offer you a cup?”

Lilly smiled widely, “No, but would you actually be willing to make some of that for our class?”

Our class. That was one of the things that Rai liked most about Lilly, she made her feel useful.

“Of course I would!” Rai said enthusiastically.

“Good.” Lilly’s smile remained. “I need your help with something else too, as you can probably see-” Rai winced at the use of the word, but Lilly just passed over it as if there was no issue. “I baked a pie for the class today. I need help grabbing supplies to set up the room with though, I hate to ask you abandon you freshly made tea but would you be willing to help me set up? I plan for today to be a more relaxing day, so there will be plenty of time for you to grab a cup later.” She had a way of simply making Rai want to help out, so she agreed. She quickly found the place where paper plates and plastic forks were stored, as well as a knife to cut the pie with.

“What about tea supplies?” Rai asked.

“Oh don’t worry about that. I have a spare set in my room, as well as many cups the students can use.”

Rai carried the supplies as they exited the room, with Lilly turning back towards the far end of the school and to its stairwell. Rai decided not to question why she didn’t want to take the elevator to their class on the 4th floor, thinking she might have some issue with it even though it was so close and let out right next to her room. Instead, she simply followed her kindly boss as they started their long walk.

Nearly 20 minutes later

Rai sort of regretted her decision to not speak up. The girls had made significant progress towards the class, but as they climbed the stairs Lilly had seemed to become further and further out of breath. By the time they reached the third floor, Lilly was leaning heavily on her cane, and she was frequently switching hands with what must have been a heavy pie. Rai felt a little bad for her, but the first period would be ending soon and she needed to go collect Benjamin to ensure he got to class.

“Umm, Lilly?”

“Hmm?” Lilly hummed the question. She tilted her head towards Rai, and Rai could see a hint of sweat on her brow. ‘How does she do this every day,’ she wondered.

“The first period will be ending soon, and I have to go and get Ben. Do you mind if I go along to there? It’s on this floor.”

“Oh…” Lilly said. She straightened herself, and Rai noticed how much her top actually seemed to be straining against her. That must be why she’s out of breath, her top’s squeezing her so tight she can barely breathe. “How about I accompany you there then?” A look of determination crossed her face, and Rai wasn’t about to turn her down. The two women exited the stairwell, and Lilly allowed Rai to take the lead as she followed her. To the far end of the school.

Lilly couldn’t figure out what the heck was going on. She had to force herself not to pant simply from going up a few flights of stairs. She was glad she hadn’t attached herself to Rai as she might Hisao, as she would be able to feel her heart beating and her deep breathing. She heard Rai come to a stop.

“We’re here. We have just a few minutes until first period ends.”

Lilly nodded, grateful for the moment of respite. She was glad that Rai hadn’t seemed to notice her exhaustion. Lilly’s bra dug into her chest, making breathing almost painful, but her lungs gasped for air. She wondered if this had something to do with what Hisao had done earlier… maybe he somehow just robbed the air out of her, or maybe she was just sleepier than she had thought. She had thought she had slept fine, but she knew she never really was a morning person. She wiped away at her forehead with the back of her freehand, hoping Rai didn’t see her so exhausted. If she did, she said nothing.

She should have taken Rai up on that cup of tea, Lilly thought almost bitterly. Still, she had to at least try to keep up appearances.

“So what class does Mr. Kimura have?” Lilly asked as she got her breath back.

“He’s in a cooking class, his mother is the teacher.”

“Oh, how nice.” Lilly replied. She didn’t even know their school taught cooking, but it seemed fitting. The thought of cooking turned her attention back to the pie she had made, and as she caught her breath her acute sense of smell seemed to kick in. The scent of the pie suddenly seemed to fill her senses, and she realized with a bit of a shock how hungry she was.

It was then that Lilly felt her stomach growl.

Loudly.

She prayed to God that Rai hadn’t heard that.

Rai had heard it.

She had been looking at Lilly for the past few minutes, trying to figure out what was different. She found herself staring at her supervising teacher, something she could not do to a person who would notice as quickly as she looked them over so intensely.

That’s when Rai had noticed that the top wasn’t the only thing pulled tight on her. As Lilly’s chest rose and fell, it became all too apparent that her stomach was doing the same as it pressed against the front of her white under shirt. Her legs were also larger looking, with her thighs resting together rather than being split as Rai could accurately remember them being. Rai also noticed Lilly’s apparently new slight double chin, and wondered how she didn’t notice it before.

Lilly had gained weight.

It was at the moment of this realization that Rai had heard Lilly’s stomach growl, as well as the bright red flush that suddenly took on Lilly’s face. Rai was desperately trying to think of something to say as the bell rang. She almost sighed in relief, instead making the relief a silent look on her face as to not have the sense inclined teacher hear her.

As students trickled out of the room, she waited patiently for Ben. Ben, however, didn’t exit the room right away. After a moment, Rai was about to enter the room when she saw the boy and the teacher exit the room together, with her arm on his shoulder in almost a congratulatory gesture with a wide smile.

If Lilly had gained any weight, she was at least still no comparison to the cooking teacher, who was a massive women with a grin as wide as she was. She was huge and short, just slightly taller than Rai was, with jet black long black hair and pale white skin.

The teacher, Mrs. Kimura, noticed the two women and her face light up with recognition as she saw… Lilly? She waddled quickly over to the pair, with Benjamin in tow.

“Excuse me, Mrs. Nakai?”

Lilly recognized that voice. It was the voice of her and Hisao’s cooking instructor!

“That is you!” she exclaimed. “Oh it’s so good to see you! Wait, are you a teacher here as well?”

“Mrs. Kimura, do you already know Mrs. Nakai?” Rai exclaimed in shock.

“How many times do I have to tell you,” the heavy-set women said, “call me Kim! And of course, Lilly here is one of my stars!”

Lilly blushed. “Oh I don’t know about that.” She said bashfully.

“Nonsense! Nobody in your class can bake like you can! And your husbands not too bad either, but I’m sure that at least one of you has been baking at home quite frequently. Speaking of which, what is that you’ve brought, there in your hand?”

“Oh, um, yes.” Lilly felt a sense of formality overtake her as she addressed the older women. “It’s a pie I baked for my students for our English class today.”

“Cool!” exclaimed Benjamin.

“Ben,” Mrs. Kimura said, “you didn’t tell me your English teacher was Mrs. Nakai! If I had known that, I would have been more than happy to give you and your husband a major discount… wait, don’t tell me he’s that new health teacher too!?”

“Yes, Hisao teaches a science/health class.” Lilly said.

“Goodness, I should be giving you two private lessons for free!” she laughed heartily.

“Oh we couldn’t impose on you like that, that’s much too kind of you to offer.” Lilly stated genuinely.

“Well it looks like you’re getting plenty of practice at home.” Mrs. Kimura said. “Come on now, you have to show it to me. A pie that size? I’m almost excited just to see it.”

“Oh, uh, of course. Ben? Would you mind holding my cane for me?”

“Of course, Mrs. Nakai!” Ben said happily. He took the cane from her and she removed the foil off of the top.

“Wow!” exclaimed Mrs. Kimura. “That looks amazing! Even I have problems making pies of that size.”

“Thank you very much.” Lilly said with a sense of pride. “I had a lot of ingredients to work with.”

Now that the pie was uncovered, the scent of it wafting up to her was stronger than ever and she remembered eating so much of a similar pie the night before. She felt her stomach growl again, but the din of the students covered the sound this time.

“You know,” said Mrs. Kimura, “I could actually use an extra hand after school if you don’t mind. Were you aware that the school offered the students a cooking club?”

“No, I wasn’t.” said Lilly, legitimately curious where she was going with this.

“Mhmm, my son Ben here is one of the club leader, a true protégée, but I run the club myself here in this room after classes. I’d love it if you could come by after classes today and teach alongside me!”

“Really??” Lilly was caught quite off guard, although she had no immediate plans after school that she could think of.

“Yea, you should come! You too, Rai! There’s more than enough food to go around, trust me I know it.” Mrs. Kimura laughed loudly, and Lilly couldn’t help but smile. This certainly had bolstered her mood.

“I would love to attend!” Lilly said excitedly, “Rai you just have to come too!”

“I guess I don’t really have much to do after…” Rai said hesitantly.

“That’s the spirit!” Mrs. Kimura exclaimed. “Now, I’d normally tell you what we’ll be making today, but today is secret day, so you’ll find out what we’re making once the club starts. Although I thiiiink Mrs. Nakai might have a bit more experience in this field then some.” She said cheekily, and Lilly could almost feel her conspiratorial wink. “I’ll see you two after school then, oh and Ben make sure you’re on your best behavior!”

“Oh god, Mom, don’t embarrass me. OOF! GEETOFF!” Ben sounded muffled, and Lilly was sure that Mrs. Kimura must have grabbed her son in a tight embrace.

“Okay,” Mrs. Kimura said, “you folks better get on your way.”

Lilly sighed, thinking of walking all the way back to the stairwell only to just have to walk back. “Yes, we should. Rai?”

“Coming, Lilly. Would you like to take the elevator this time?”

Elevator?

Nobody had told Lilly there was an elevator in this school.

“Oh, sure. I’m not exactly sure where that is from here though… would you mind?”

“I’ll help, Mrs. Nakai!” Benjamin slightly placed his hand on her arm and guided her to the elevator and his mother called goodbye to them again.

They hadn’t traveled ten steps when they reached the elevator.

“It’s right here!” Benjamin exclaimed. “My mom uses it all the time, and she tells me to too so I don’t bump into people when I walk…” Lilly recalled the file on Benjamin stating he had excessively poor eyesight, almost as bad as that boy her and Hisao had attended Yamaku with… the one she had yelled at…  She pushed the embarrassing memory from her mind as she heard the elevator ding, and the group entered.

The elevator was nice and cool, a feeling Lilly loved as the slight chill ran over her formally hot body. Lilly would have to have a word with Hisao about better describing buildings, the strong man could take the four flights of stairs if he wanted. She chuckled to herself at the ridiculousness of it. The smell of the pie filled the elevator as it ascended, and Lilly felt herself suppressing her stomach growling again.

What is going on? I had a huge breakfast today… I ate like-’ her thoughts were interrupted by Benjamin.

“That Pie smells amazing Mrs. Nakai.” He said. “I can’t wait to try some!”

Lilly, quite pleased with this, had an idea pop in her head. The elevator dinged and they exited, and she turned to Benjamin. “Ben, would you have the honor of cutting the pie for the class?”

“I would love to!” he exclaims. “I’ve made a ton of stuff with my mom, so I know how to cut it, no worries!”

Lilly smiled and nodded at him. “Thank you.”

“Class is right over here, Lilly.” Said Rai, guiding her with her hand on her back. Once again, not more than fifteen steps away, and they were in Lilly’s classroom. She could hear a few students talking excitedly, and assumed that some of the other aids besides Rai had already arrived. Lilly walked over to her desk and placed down the pie, only now realizing how much her arm hurt from carrying it all morning. She and Rai walked over to a cabinet, where she took out tea making supplies. “I don’t have any heaters in this room. Do you know how to make cold tea?”

“Yea,” replied Rai. “It will be no problem. I’ll get started on making enough for everyone.”

“Once the bell rings, would you mind giving me a headcount? There should be ten students and three aids, including you.”

“Will do!” Rai said, already starting on the tea.

Lilly walked over to another aide and asked him to pass out the plates and utensils to the class.

Lilly walked to her desk and sat down, feeling her body lean back in the comfortable chair. Today had already proved to be exhausting, and Lilly was just glad to finally be sitting down.

A few minutes later, Rai reported to Lilly that all the students and aids were in attendance today.

Lilly stood up front before the class.

“Good morning class.”

“Good morning Mrs. Nakai!”

“Today, we will be doing a different exercise. If everyone can please form a line in front of my desk? Ben, Rai, will you please come up here as well?”

As everyone took their positions, Lilly informed the class that today they would be partaking of a famous American food, apple pie. Each student must approach the desk and, in perfect English, ask for a slice of pie. The students would receive a piece of pie as well as a cup of tea to go with it, and the aids were instructed to join in as well. They would then be able to go along with the rest of the class as they wished, but Lilly said she’d prefer if they kept all conversations in English.

Lilly instructed for Ben to cut the pie into 13 pieces, one for each student as well as one for each assistant.

“What about you?” he asked.

“I’ll be forgoing my piece.” Lilly replied simply. “That way you will all have more of it to enjoy.”

Ben seemed hesitant, but after a moment agreed. Each student came before her at the front of the room and one after the other repeated “May I have a slice of pie?” She nodded and replied, in English, “You may.”

She could hear as Ben cut each piece and as Rai poured the tea, and she tried desperately to ignore how hungry it was all making her feel.

Finally, after each student received a piece, she sat down heavily in her chair. She was famished, and the smell of pie all around her was making it so much worse, but she was happy that her class seemed to be enjoying it so much. She could hear conversations going on in English, some more comprehensible than others. She could hear two girls debating which was better, "gween tea" or "cawffee." 'Pronunciation,' Lilly thought, 'that is what will be next on the list.' Still, she had a spot of pride in each of her students.

“And here is one for you,” she heard Rai said, and something being placed in front of her. “Everybody,” she continued in English, “What do we say to Mrs. Nakai?”

“Thank you Mrs. Nakai!!” they shouted.

Lilly felt a moment of surprise, and more than anything a huge gratitude for her students. “But, I said…”

“I know what you said, but I told Ben to make sure he saved a little extra for you. After all, none of us would have any except for you. Although I think he took it to heart and saved you a biiit much. I placed a cup of tea with that just to the left of the pie.” Lilly sort of wanted to refuse, but the hunger from her stomach promised to never forgive her if she did.

“Thank you Rai. That was very nice of you.” Lilly said, and she meant every word.

“No problem, Lilly.” She said, smile evident in her voice. As Lilly heard her walk away, she felt out with her fingers ahead of her. She found the tea, the plate and fork, and finally the pie.

The slice was gigantic! It must have been a fourth of the entire pie! Lilly nearly said something, but everybody was already continuing on and having a nice time… She shouldn’t spoil that. She imagined that everybody else’s slice must be super tiny compared to hers, but to be honest the thing she wanted to do most was get something into her stomach.

Lilly sliced off the front part of the pie with her fork. It came apart easily and she raised the dessert food to her mouth. The taste was fantastic, for some reason it tasted so much better than the smaller pie she had eaten with Hisao the previous night. Her stomach purred in contentment with the delicious food being passed between her lips. She took another bite, and then another, and each one made her feel better and better.

In the back of her head, Lilly thought that there must be 6 inches from the center towards the crust, and there’d be no way she could finish it all in one sitting. All the same, there’s no harm in just enjoying it, right?

She proved herself wrong though, and at the end of class, Lilly joined the rest of the students in throwing away their completely cleaned plates.
