I'll say this, if Hannibal is the devil, Batiatus and Lucretia are his lieutenants. You've pegged them accurately as I hoped you would by this episode. Spartacus dishonoring Oenomaus in that way also angered me. He's a good guy. But then again, trying to put him to sleep was always better than killing him, so in a twisted way, he did the man a kindness, (if only he stayed sleeping.)

Spartacus has protagonist energy. You know when things just go their way just because. But he forgets he is in the "real world" where such a thing doesn't exist.

I felt for Varro trying so hard to turn Spartacus from his stupid path. Its like Killua trying to convince Gon not to do something stupid.

To be honest the plan wasn't that ridiculous. It started off bad, but he did get his armour, a knife, the guards were drunk and tired.... what better way to flee? If he would've just started running without a weapon or armour...that would've been stupid. But instead.. he aquired all that. The only thing that didn't quite work was taking out oenomaus (the angry brother). - even though he did take him out, just not long enough. Otherwise he probably would've gotten away. Pretty solid plan actually. 😀

poor Barca, poor pietros 😥 Ashur is a piece of shit...but that's why I like him. Just like Batiatus. And I LOVE Varro. He's such a great friend.

By the end, his plan was decent, but far from perfect, and some of it did fail, like with Oenomaus waking up. Getting Batiatus was his best shot, but that's also weight he'd have to drag a reasonable distance, by which time the romans would likely surround him. The most important aspect though was that he recognized it would likely be their death. But he considered that an acceptable fate, rather than have his wife enslaved indefinitely.
