WOAH! I thought this was Nick CAge going in and then was SO happy to see my Rocky! I think I "got this". It was crazy and so action-y but not taking itself too seriously right? It was entertaining and nostalgic and thought-provoking and can't go wrong with Rocky and Sandy B! This was supposed to be up yesterday so sorry about it being late! It doesn't count toward this week's Patreon releases :)

[Full Reaction] Demolition Man (1993)

Chris W

Oh boy. Hyped for this. So much goofy fun in this movie, but it still has a heart and ideas running through it.

Dave Hill

Did you get your bathroom painted this weekend? Don’t forget to set out the seashells once you’re done. 🐚🐚🐚🤣

GamerGal8684

What is so interesting is if you take a second watch you can see just how relevant it is today and gotta say, Snipes was the perfect over the top villain

Michael Lynch

Love this movie, but I really can’t wait to get to tombstone.

Peter MacColeman

“His Jail time is being frozen like Walt Disney?!”

Patrick Gibbs

Cassie, you are an incredibly sensitive woman who inspires joy-joy feelings in all those around you!

Matt Rose

Murder Death Kill!

Benjamin Gerrald

Great react, I still wish you and your sister would do the new Midway film and spielbergs munich film

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

Realizing Cassie's only seen Sly before this in Rocky, I have to recommend First Blood aka Rambo: First Blood. To be honest, I don't really like the rest of the Rambo movies, but First Blood is a truly great movie, it both is and isn't what you'd expect given the reputation of the Rambo franchise as action. Just saying that after you watch it you have to again respect Stallone as not just an actor with muscles but as a filmmaker, because he co-wrote the movie (screenplay, it was based on a novel) and it has a real message at it's heart that I think needed to be told.

Wu Sha Ling

context for many young'uns: climate change was not commonly known in 93, so crime was the major concern at the time. that is one of the reasons for the optimistic vision of the future. there are many, many layers to this goofball action flick. many jokes are now funny in a whole different context than intended at the time. imo this film has time on its side

Choof

Excellent reaction, you absolutely got the fun vibe and the satire of action movies of the day juxtaposed with the sanitized future

Michael Lynch

As far as Stallone movies, I highly suggest Rambo first blood, tango and Cash, Driven and cliffhanger.

Michael Lynch

You said you wanted to watch some Jackie Chan movies? He has way better movies than Shanghai noon. Try rumble in the Bronx and the drunken Master, and super cop.

Robert da Spruce

Fun reaction Cassie! And the Swiffer jingle at the end…plus jazz hands 👐🤣 The action was way over the top in that movie! And possibly some of the worst aim in any film! 😀 What made that movie for me is the comedy. The three shells, the jingles, Stallone being a seamstress, all the weird things about the future. Hilarious! Also, the Lethal Weapon 3 poster. I think that was a sign Cassie! 😉 You definitely have to react to it now!

Shawn Kildal

Jackie Chan was offered the role of Phoenix but turned it down because he didn't want to play a bad guy. Also, instead of Taco Bell, the European version substituted Pizza Hut or Pizza Inn (I can't remember which) because Taco Bell wasn't well known there.

Uncle Phoenix

I was shocked at how presient that movie was; the Zoom meetings, Arnold as a politician, the touchless germ-free handshakes, and the Moral Verbal Code. Thank God that we never got to the “Three Sea Shells” portion of the Covid Lockdown.

djKENTO

Yes please watch some Jackie Chan movies!! Police Story 1&2 let’s goooooo

Shawn Kildal

First Blood, Cliffhanger and Cop Land are my favorite (outside of the Rocky franchise) Stallone movies. Demolition Man was entertaining though. This is just dawning on me, perhaps what's holding Cassie back from wanting to watch First Blood is the title of the movie. She just said the same thing about Lethal Weapon. I could be reaching here though. Just a thought.

Planner

I'd say you got it perfectly well, yes 😀 Chief George Earle was the warden from The Shawshank Redemption.

Shawn Kildal

I agree with all the choices you made except for Driven. Terrible movie. Saw it at theater and couldn't wait for it to end. Stallone even said he regretted making the movie which says it all.

Michael Lynch

Oh, I love over the top. Also it’s another one of those great 80s movies with an awesome Kenny Loggins song. Meet me halfway.

Gábor Árki

I didn't know they changed that for all European versions. It is Pizza Hut in the Hungarian dub, but I always assumed it was a decision of the voice director so that the audience can understand the pop-culture reference. Coincidently, the first Pizza Hut of the country just opened in 1992 and they were in an aggressive expansion when the movie was released.

Stick Figure Studios

"We're police officers. We're not trained for this kind of violence." Saw that this was streaming on Hulu about a year or so back realized that I hadnot viewed it a second time since it came out, so I put it on. I don't think I gave this movie a fair shake on my first watch. It's much smarter and funnier than I gave it credit for as a young budding cinephile (one of Snipes' first lines, for example, is "I'd lose my head if it wasn't attached." Very clever foreshadowing). I think I just took myself too seriously at the time and was on the verge of becoming a major film snob, thus making it harder to appreciate a wonderfully goofy, subversive and idiosyncratic genre effort like this. Oh, well. Older and wiser now... Also, lol after befriending the uniquely brilliantly screenwriter Daniel Waters (HEATHERS, BATMAN RETURNS) on Facebook probably helped. Can't wait to watch this reaction. :-)

David Freese

There were several instances of global warming in media in the 70s and 80s. 2 examples were Leonard Nemoy in a documentary about it in 79 and global warming helping to cause the Eugenics Wars in TNG.

David Freese

They all definitely went to the Stormtrooper School for shooting things.

David Freese

It was made throughout markets outside of North America because more people knew of Pizza Hut than Taco Bell in the early 90s

James UK

There’s a rich seam of Stallone action movies of the 80s and 90s. A lot are enjoyable. I think Cliffhanger is my favourite.

Gábor Árki

Wow, I like how Cassie lit up when realizing this is a Sylvester Stallone movie. 😀Sadly, I won't have time to watch this reaction before Wednesday evening but really looking forward to it. If you take a closer look at Sly's carrier, beyond Rocky and Rambo it was more of misses than hits, but the year 1993 was a good exception for this. Both Cliffhanger and Demolition Man are among the few I think stood the test of time. And in case of Demolition Man, it feels like a pure accident, because the movie probably ended up something no one really intended it to be back in the '90s. Little known trivia: the movie is most likely based on a book of Hungarian author István Nemere called 'Holtak harca' (no official English title but should be something like 'The Battle of the Dead'), published in 1986. The novel is about a duel between a terrorist and a counter-terrorism soldier. Both are cryogenically frozen and awakened two centuries later. Their fight continues in a society from which violence has already been eradicated, and thus it is not prepared for their presence. Sounds familiar? His story was used without his knowledge or consent though. Eventually he decided not to sue because he didn't have the funds to do so, and the studio acquired the story/pitch in a good faith not knowing about his book. I'm also taking the opportunity to promote another Sly movie: Oscar (1991). His ventures to comedy were quite bad, but this is the one exception and might be his most underrated movie IMO. It is a witty screwball comedy about a gangster (Sly) trying his best to "go straight" keeping the promise he made to his dying father. Also starring a young Marisa Tomei, her first big screen role I believe.

rubberkidney

you should check out blade, a marvel movie with wesley snipes...some might calli it the first marvel movie and judge dredd another campy and fun sly movie.

Gábor Árki

+1 for First Blood. It is one of if not the best of Stallone. I never cared much about the sequels either, they are missing the heart&soul that made the first one so good.

Mike Lemon

What? "Climate change" has been taught in schools since the late '70s or early '80s - cooling first, then warming. What wasn't taught is the apocalyptic neo-religion of today.

Nolan B.

Saw this in my inbox and I'm looking forward to watching it later. I haven't seen this movie in years but it's definitely in my top 10. I'm still pondering how to use those three sea shells I bought during Covid. Speaking of Top 10 - Please consider reacting to Point Break sometime soon. IMHO it's one of the best crime/thriller/action movies given to us by the 90's, and the late great Patrick Swayze/Keanu Reeves KILLS (figuratively, not literally IIRC) in this movie. It's got the added benefit of being very meme-worthy ;)

Mike Lemon

Oh, oh, oh... Nic Cage- If you want more Nic Cage- City of Angels (1998). A great chick flick (not rom-com).

Philip Davetas

Oh, man! I love this movie! I can't tell if this was an adaptation of BRAVE NEW WORLD or not. But there are a lot of shout-outs.

JL_83

saw this many times back in the 90s, think it’s adorable how she went in thinking it was another Nic Cage movie (maybe she was thinking of The Wicker Man?) and ended up pleasantly surprised to see Rocky and Sandra Bullock; only question is how those seashells work, lol

Walter

Demolition Man is a great over the top action/comedy. Your reaction was fantastic. A great action/drama with Stallone is First Blood.

Chip MC

Great reaction vid. This was fun. On the topic of Stallone, I think "Cop Land" is his best and most nuanced performance.

Matt Rose

Time for CLIFFHANGER.

Richard Bourne

I remember this movie and don't want to watch it again. Too stupid as a vision of the future for me. I do like Denis Leary who was a dry humor scarcastic and cynical comedian. I don't even care about the not knowing how to use the shells in the bathroom thing, and believe it is a joke on the audience in that there is no explaination.

Mike Lemon

Interesting thought. What do you think the "sex and drugs" was in this movie?

Canadianant

Funny I just did a watch along up in Canada here and on Prime I got the pizza hut version but I remember watching this in the 90s and it was the Taco Bell version

Anthony Perez

Well at least "FETCH" won't get you a ticket

Gábor Árki

I think that is mostly true even today. I know of Taco Bell, but all my knowledge is from movies. According to Bing AI, they are still only present in seven European countries (the UK, Finland, Iceland, Cyprus, Spain, the Netherlands, and Romania) with 92 locations altogether. The nearest location to me is 800+ kilometers. This was the most complex question I asked so far from Bing ChatGPT, and I am amazed that it gave me a list of their locations in Romania with their distance to me. 😃And also a bit terrified. 😟

ArsTropica

In the middle of all the action and comedy is a decent political movie about cancel culture. Also Cocteau was a 1000% worse villain than Snipes.

Andrew Chung

Sandra Bullock will now forever be known as ‘Sandy B’ to me lol.

Jennifer Medicus

It's just a fun movie though the "nice" future is pretty dystopian when you think about it. But you're right, it doesn't take itself too seriously, which is what I enjoy. Enough dystopia in other entertainment...and real life.

Just Plain Bob

Wesley Snipes is, and always will be, BLADE!

Sean Novack

Just wait until you see the film "First Blood", and you'll see Sly Stallone in one of the best-acted scenes I've ever seen. Most of the sequels were crap, but that film will always make him "John Rambo" in my book

Mike LL

We got to put the line in the Cassie-isms Hall of Fame!

Mike LL

My favorite was always the movie known as Operation Condor in the States (It is really Armor of God 2) because of all the fantastic stunts and Cassie would love the 3 wacky female sidekicks.

Rick Williams

I think Cassie is being scared off by the title. An it is not a gory movie. I don't even recall anyone dying in it. But, it's been awhile since I saw it. There could have been one death in it somewhere. It is not another Robocop.

Matthew Scarth

Cassie, you totally got it! What a fun reaction to a great movie, I loved how much you enjoyed this one :)

Mike LL

Entertaining to the max, I just knew Cassie would love Sandra Bullock in this movie, she made it one year before she hit it big in Speed, and was just too cute in this one. And since Sylvester Stallone as John Spartan did the whole "jumping-sideways-shooting-two-guns-action-hero-move," Cassie is well prepared to see Hot Fuzz now!

Bill Maurer

First Blood was an excellent movie. What came after was a bit over the top. Though the one filmed in Thailand/Burma related to real world events

Bill Maurer

First blood as one death (not trying to give away any spoilers) in it.

Marc Levesque

Loved the reaction Cassie, love this era of Stallone, from that time stamp you should watch Cliffhanger, very good action movie and Daylight, in the action disaster genre, both feature Sly at his physical peak, Copland is also very good, one of his best acting performances, this guy is NOT a one trick Pony and tough I love Arnie, I think SLY is a much better actor, please put those on your list!

Marc Levesque

When this came out, I tought the dystopian future depicted was funny and crazy, but looking at today's reality in the so called democratic nations, some parts feel ironic, Woke agendas, SJW's, living under ideologies decided by others, anything considered bad gets outlawed or cancelled and living walking on eggshells in fear of offending anyone, history discarded as bad and anything old school frowned upon, let's hope the future doesn't dissolve into 2 groups divided who cannot live and exchange with each other, extremism in any ideology is dangerous, a perfect utopian world may not end up being great for all it's Citizens...

Erik Daniel

Don't say sorry for the delay, there's no need to make a de-hurtful retraction.

Odd Thomas

The daddy of Nic Cage movies is Face/Off, so I hope you get to that one soon! Also another classic Stallone movie I don't think you've seen yet: Cliffhanger

Rue

Probably my favorite bit of this was Cassie just squinting at the screen all confused, like "WHY ARE YOU SHOOTING SO MUCH AND NOT HITTING EACH OTHER?! WHAT IS HAPPENING?" lol That's 90s action movies for you - not very big on the real-world bullet physics and huuuuuge on the silly splodey-splode vibes and one-liners. I do have to say, though - this is probably my favorite action movie from that era precisely because of Sandra (this was her big break into films - Speed came after this one!) and all the various characters that pop up in the police department. And btw, I know the secret trick to the three seashells and all I'll say is - you don't wanna know. No, really. You don't wanna know lol

John Cohen

Never thought I’d hear Cassie say that about fluid transfers lol.

Rick Williams

You got it. Great reaction to a fun movie. Yes, you need more Stallone in your life. Great movies in the 90's.

James MacDonald

"Let's get back to exchanging bodily fluids." I nearly spat my drink out when Cassie said that haha

Steve Sanders

You completely got the movie. Especially the quotability factor. I've been quoting Demolition Man for 30 years and I'm only 38. Should I have been allowed to watch it? Yes, yes I should. Be well.

tiny baby kitty man

First of all, it was very funny that you thought Nic Cage was in this, but that also made me think, well hey... what if? Would "cut the chit-chat, a-hole!" actually trigger the ticketing for using curse words? I guess we'll never know. But I'm also going to chime in with the other Jackie Chan fans (stans?). You're already keen on Tom Cruise doing his own stunts. Might as well delve into the master. Jackie has broken so many things over the years doing his stunts, and although it's going to be a high violence-to-story ratio, I think you'll see it for what is, and appreciate it. That said... I want to recommend Police Story or Drunken Master but I feel like the more accessible entry point - especially if your frame of reference is the Shanghai movies - is going to be Rumble In the Bronx. Even if that's all you ever watch of Jackie's, I'll be satisfied.

Eric Wallace

Gonna have swifter advertising on your channel soon!

Timothy Burrows

This reaction had it all. The laughs, the snort, and the asking Google while following it up with, "The future?!"

Aaron Mann

Since it's action month and all, can you please squeeze in another Stallone classic, CLIFFHANGER? It's one of those suspenseful, edge-of-your-seat movies that you will have a blast watching, not to mention some very sweaty palms 😉

Collar City Guy

Cassie you should absolutely react to First Blood and Rambo/First Blood II, you will not be disappointed! PS It was a crying shame to smash up an Olds 442 the way they did.

Joe Mallard

Agreed with everyone suggesting First Blood. For Jackie Chan movies, gotta start with the Rush Hour trilogy.

Night King01

Love that the memory foam thing saved his life in the crash but the shooting and the crashing before that didn’t activate the foam lol

Jay Robert

Save The Ref (a great hilarious Christmas movie with Dennis Leary) for next Christmas!

ArsTropica

Also a fan of that movie. It's Maximum Cage - where he takes his German Expressionism craft to a new level. As much as I would love to see Cassie's take on it, I don't know what her take on it will be because it's quite wild in places.

ArsTropica

... and make it sound so wholesome as well... only Cassie could do that!

Paul Browne

+1 for City of Angels, my wife's favourite movie (I like it too mind! ) which has a fantastic soundtrack as well. Alanis Morissette's Uninvited is amazing.

Paul Browne

Just rewatched First Blood recently and enjoyed it even more than the earlier watches when I was younger. Agree the sequels are on a whole different level, and not in a good way.... To be avoided really.

Paul Browne

I really hope they go down a Nic Cage rabbit hole, with Face Off, Con Air, Moonstruck, Raising Arizona, and maybe finally The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent..... which is most enjoyable when you've had the full Cage experience....

Paul Browne

... Cliffhanger would be a great reaction, and was a bit of a welcome comeback for Stallone, if I recall, after a series of duds in the preceding years.

Bill Maurer

Yes on watching Jackie Chan movies. Supercop 2 with Michelle Yeoh and Operation Condor. But his Westerns with Owen Wilson are great

Eric

John Spartans Captain in 1996 is played by the same actor who is the Captain of Riggs and Murtaugh in the Lethal Weapons films which is funny because of the Lethal Weapon 3 poster in the movie. And Jack Black plays one of the scrappers.

Captain Caveman

I always say that Demolition Man is a very prophetic movie

Christopher B.

I'll cosign everyone else in saying that you need to see First Blood, the sooner the better. Stallone's performance in that movie is absolutely stunning, and the movie itself is far more a nuanced drama instead of an "actiony guy" sort of movie that you likely believe it to be (although the first two Rambo sequels are certainly Dude action-type movies). For two more must-watch Stallone movies beyond First Blood: Firstly there's Cliffhanger, the other big 90's action movie for Sly and is played more straight (think a sort of thriller/action type, very little comedy like Demolition Man). And beyond that, there's Cop Land, which has an absolutely stacked cast (Including Robert DeNiro) and has a legendary performance from Stallone, playing strongly against expectations and showing that even with all his flops in the years after Rocky and First Blood, he is still a fantastic actor capable of standing shoulder-to-shoulder with other greats.

Mr Trick

I’ve always been curious what the fast food franchise wars were like. Taco Bell seems like an underdog in that fight.

Martin Skouboe

It was actually only Taco Bell in America. For the European market all references to Taco Bell was replaced with Pizza Hut. Logos were changed and dialogue was dubbed. You can find compilations of the dubs on YouTube. It's quite jarring when you watch the movie :)

Larry Darrell

The order of release is The Rock, Con Air, Face/Off. All unrelated, but works as A Nic Cage Action Trilogy.

Larry Darrell

Also, Grand L. Bush, who was the helicopter pilot in the beginning. Cassie has now seen him in: Streets of Fire, as a member of The Sorels. Lethal Weapon 1 & 2, as a fellow officer, Boyette/Jerry Collins Die Hard, as FBI Special Agent Johnson, "No Relation" And According to Letterboxd, Forrest Gump, as a Black Panther Leader. This won't be the last.

Riley

THERE ARE SO MANY GOOD JACKIE CHAN MOVIES!!!

Bubba Fett

If you liked the tone of this you would probabaly like judge dredd, another Stallone classic and it parallels this one in a lot of ways. Leary has had a huge career, his most memorable movie of the top of my head, "The Ref" and the show he did "Rescue Me" are great.

Ricardo Alanis

Bob Gunton, the actor that played the police chief was the warden in Shawshank Redemption.
