Ok guys, Goodfellas, not to be confused with good fellows. Still can't believe this was based on a true story. I'm not going to say much about my reaction, but wow what a storyteller!

[Full Reaction] Goodfellas (1990)

I can't say alot, but I married into Chicago family (divorced now). You know there's a river in Indiana that has approximately 43 bodies buried in the swamp areas from 1920-1975.

Excellent movie. Great reaction. “Jimmy was the kind of guy who rooted for the bad guy in movies.” The movie is too much for me by the end (especially as I get older) but that's not a criticism of the movie. The witness protection program was a little bit of relief at the end. The movie is No. 9 on my list of best/favorite movies all time. “Jimmy and I could never be made because we had Irish blood, didn’t even matter that my Mother was Sicilian.”

Some of you are clearly trolling. I wasn't sure before but some of these comments are too ridiculous to be serious. Nice job. Not gonna play anymore. And if they are serious??....wow. She didn't ask for your help. And I'm sure she doesn't need it. She already has a husband. Stop being a creep

Jay

It does always seem to be guys objecting when she watches harsher material. Make of that what you will......

nick bell

I make it out as weak trolling or creepy. No other way to see it. When grown men worry about what movies a grown woman whom they've never met watches what else can you call it? I laughed about it before. But it seems almost stalkerish now. Maybe that's harsh but those of us that recommend these movies have been called sociopathic, cruel, masochistic and several other names. Enough is enough. If they don't respect Cassies wishes the hell with them. Get a grip

Little bit of movie trivia: don't know if anyone's mentioned this yet, but Tommy's mother in the film is played by Martin Scorsese 's own real-life mom.

I see. So many here have no respect for Cassie. That's your implication.. Or we don't know how to be chivalrous. Or maybe you take movie watching way too seriously. Enjoy your top tier. - Nick

I used to wonder "why does this James Flack guy delete all of his comments"? I'm now guessing you have brief moments of clarity when you realize you're talking rubbish, then you go back and delete your comments accordingly. Well you can go ahead and delete every contribution to this thread, absolutely none of it "had to be said". It's the ramblings of a madman.

Jay

You're done, yet you keep posting 🤷 Just go ahead and delete your comments, like we all know you're going to. Or edit them down to practically nothing, like you've already done with several of your contributions on this thread. I thought all that stuff "had to be said" though? Honestly James, if all this is trolling then I applaud the dedication. But if you're not and all these comments are genuine, you're one seriously pathetic individual.

Finally found the time to watch this reaction. Wasn’t as bad as I thought it’d be! I’m glad you recognized the great story telling and acting. Joe Pesci actually won an Oscar for this role. And he gave the shortest speech in Oscar history. Just a simple “thank you”............ you mentioned you wanted to dive more into the true story behind this. The Wikipedia page connected to this film if a great place to start. There’s pages on most of the people and events mentioned in this film. But if you really wanna dive deep check out the book “Wise Guys” that this was based on by Nicolas Pileggi. He also wrote the screenplay with Martin Scorecese... and he also happens to be married to Nora Ephron who’s considered the “Queen of Rom-Coms” (When Harry met Sally, Sleepless in Seattle, You’ve got Mail, and many more)

A couple of thousand years ago, there was a debate between two Greek philosophers: Plato and Aristotle. According to Plato, intense dramas are bad for us because they flood our psyche with disturbing feelings, and remove our ability to self-regulate our emotions, corrupting our souls. Aristotle disagreed - saying humans have the ability to cope with our intense feelings, and a good drama will teach us things about life in how it resolves its own conflict. This 3000 year old argument was the inspiration for The Truman Show. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allegory_of_the_cave Just my 2 cents as a former Classics student...

"Look it up gentleman, maybe for the first time." Notice how he insults us right before claiming he was taught to respect women and elders (was he taught to disrespect young men then?). Have to quote him because he'll either edit out the more egregious stuff or delete the comment altogether. Jon Johns, Cassie, whoever - sorry if this thread has turned ugly but if someone is going to be condescending and insulting, I will respond in kind.

Great story Scorsese is a genius he knows the underside of mob life very well it seems, toxic characters with little or no redeeming qualities whatsoever, soon as narcotics was introduced into the story it all came crashing down ruining people's lives, leaving families broken in distress..what happened to Karen and their children?..I've noticed one consistent thing with mob movies and maybe in real life..life revolves around the dining room table did you get a load of the food!! I wouldn't mind being a dinner guest but, only once-in-a-lifetime. :)

If anyone’s wondering what became of Henry Hill, he left witness protection and ended up as a regular guest on Howard Sterns show. He died a few years later. You can YouTube it. He occasionally tells some good stories, but he’s mostly just a drunken mess.

According to some former mobsters, Goodfellas is the most accurate depiction of what life in the mafia was like.

There's absolutely no reason to feel sorry for Karen Hill. For years she was happy to live off the proceeds of multiple felonies. She couldn't care less that her husband broke the law on a daily basis, regularly committing assaults, robberies and worse. She only became upset when he cheated on her. Well, as far as sins go, that was the least of his. Also, it should be noted, she carried on an affair with Paulie, the boss of the gang that Henry ran with, for YEARS. She was a scumbag just like her husband.

I subscribed to your Patreon channel because of your delightful and heartbreaking reaction to Ford vs Ferrari. Like Full Metal Jacket, I knew this would be tough for you. You do Movie Reactions, not Movie Reactions For Happy Fun Movies That Always End Nice. Thank you for that.

Armchair Wizard

I don't disagree with you about Karen, except for the Paulie bit. I read somewhere that Paulie sexually assaulted her, so that part to my knowledge isn't so cut and dry.

Just Plain Bob

I think you’re getting Paulie confused with Tommy DeSimone. Tommy tried to rape Karen Hill but she fended him off. His attempted rape was one of the reasons that Paulie ok’d Tommy’s murder. Paulie and Karen carried on an affair that began when Henry was sent to prison and lasted for years.
