Hey beautiful people, how was everyone's weekend? Anyone see any good movies? I watched Jurassic World a few nights ago (and loved it) and have been wanting to see Licorice Pizza!

We have some fun stuff coming up this week, 2 heist movies, a mystery(?) and the last two episodes of Loki.

Carly has been gone all week so I am excited to have her back too :)

Two Memorial Day Polls just went up-make sure to vote on both and then in 3 days I will take the top 4 from each for a final poll! Also upcoming in the next little bit is Ex Machina (winner of Oscar 2016 poll), Patriot Games and Mission Impossible 2

I am going to do a separate post about this but the LIVE will be next Sunday 5/22 @ 4pm MST!! A 200k Party and Ask me Anything and a few packages :) Love these, can't wait!

Cassie, will you be doing a TOP GUN 2 theater reaction?, I’d love to see that.

John Drake

Heat of course is also a Michael Mann film which I don't think you've seen up to now - very distinctive style, lots of cool greys and blues with an ominous, slightly menacing atmosphere where everyone wears suits (including the crooks). As a newbie, you have no idea how big a deal it was to have DeNiro & Pacino interact with each other - its only for a few minutes, but is electrifying. Tremendous film, with small elements of romance - nothing to be scared about, and no need to walk away in 30 seconds flat if you feel the heat around the corner ....

These all look awesome...and yay...and cool!...but...what about the full reaction to 'The Batman'? Still working on it? Just wondering...

Em McG

Wow, Heat!

Variable38

I'm surprised all the "film purists" aren't hating all over Heat for being a remake. "I think she should watch L.A. Takedown, blah blah blah."

Anonymous

We may be the only two people here who've seen LA Takedown. But I think you have to be a purist to really care how great it is to watch both back to back.

Variable38

That was a joke, i actually never saw it. i just know of it, but i would be interested to compare them. the same film maker remaking his own tv movie 5/6 years later into a "real" bigger budget movie.

Robert Livingood

I've seen it. I actually own it. Not bad for its time, really, and for a Heat nut like I am, fun to watch every few years.

Variable38

i just looked more into it, curious if there were any other releases other than the region 2 dvd and learned it was filmed to be a pilot for a tv series and only about half the run time as heat. my interest grows. im in the us but have region free player.

Robert Livingood

It was a pilot, you're absolutely right. The copy I have is VHS quality that I found quite a while ago. I would only recommend spending money on it if you're a a massive fan, as I can't describe it as actually, you know, good. It was good for its time (an '80s TV movie) , and fun to watch as a double bill. Xander Berkeley is in both (he plays Waingro in LA Takedown) which is interesting. The One Heat Minute podcast is also great for Heat Heads.

pillowcase pull - hoping for Ghost in the Darkness - good true story

I still hope to one day see a reaction to Ladder 49. That's just me, great firefighter movie and no one has reacted to it yet

Variable38

well, its too late. after i posted that last comment i went to Amazon uk and bought the region 2 dvd (no joke) it was only around $9 US, shipped, but i am holding you responsible for it.

Robert Livingood

Hey, even lesser Michael Mann is worth $9. I wonder if Jericho Mile ever got a DVD release.

Variable38

I dont know who jericho mike is so how would i know if he has a dvd of LA takedown. (ah.. im so funny). Jericho Mile does have a fully restored bluray though.

Andy Hafler

Does anybody know what days the release is scheduled for?

Philip Alan

Last week release days landed on Tues, Wed & Sunday for Patreon, I believe. Not sure if it's the same every week.

I saw LA Takedown some years back and all the basic elements of Heat where present. It was for TV, the budget and production values weren't there. But Michael Mann's fingerprints were easy to see. It has one great, great scene where Vincent and Neil see each other in a car park. Thank God it wasn't picked up for TV, or we would have been denied the literally perfect film masterpiece.

My_Cousin_Mose

When it comes to emergency responders firefighters have always been the red headed step child. A sincere thanks to all those that take on that dangerous job.

Carol_White

I guess the week begins on Wednesday in Utah.

My_Cousin_Mose

Whenever Cassie puts out a "coming up next week post" she almost always gets all the movies listed posted within the week. She doesn't necessarily start on Monday but before the weeks out it'll all be here.

Heat is a phenomenal film, one of my personal favorites. A white-knuckle action thriller that doesn't let up. The film has what is arguably the best on-screen shoot-out ever captured on a film set in downtown LA, and director Michael Mann wanted a realistic approach for the scene, so he did no post-production work on it and the sounds are what they captured on film.
