tl;dr - I've got my new rendering PC! And I've also found the solution for the broken settings menu in Timelapse.

This week's image

I've decided to do a few 2k poster versions of some of the PAL images; I'll explain a bit more about that below, but for now, here's the first one. You can zoom in close on this one because I rendered it to a full 2k scale (2160 pixels in height). So make sure to open the full version of the image!

I've got some more of these coming as bonuses, so let me know if there's any particular scene you'd like to see!

Big news - I've got my new PC!

My new rendering computer arrived on Wednesday! Transitioning over to a new machine is a lengthy process, so that's been taking up a bunch of my time this week, but in the long run this should save me heaps of time. It was expensive, too, but it's worth it as an investment for Timelapse. It's pretty exciting to be finally making this upgrade!

The big hassle is that even though I've got it working and able to render now, my library of 3D assets is huge and needs to be re-downloaded to work properly. That's over 200gb of downloading and... yes, of course, my Internet connection is really flaky and poor right now. So this is actually a pretty big problem for me right now and it means that I can't do much of the rendering that I'd like to be doing. That's in fact why I'm doing the PAL 2k posters; because it's mostly the newer assets that I use in Timelapse that I need to re-download. The older PAL stuff is already (largely) set up, so I can load up those older files and just render them at a higher level in many (but not all) cases.

I thought, since I can't produce all that much in the way of new images for you guys right now or show really dramatic progress in Timelapse just yet because of the stage of development I'm in (and I feel bad about that) then at least I can easily set these 2k renders up as a bonus that won't take too much of my time up.

The 2k posters are not something I could realistically do on my old machine - even those other posters I've done recently weren't quite that big and they were very carefully chosen to be scenes that I could render using tricks and methods to keep the rendering time down as low as possible. These new ones aren't as restricted and don't take me nearly as long as before.

Solving the broken menus in Timelapse

I've found out the solution for fixing the broken menu screens in Timelapse, in particular the options menu where the volume controls don't work and the text speed is screwed up. This was a bug in the Visual Novel Maker engine (so... not actually my fault) and the way they patched the engine didn't actually fix it in my project. I found out how to fix it before my new PC arrived; it was just a matter of implementing the solution, which took a few days since I had to migrate over.

I've done that now and reverted to VNM's default system menus, which aren't particularly pretty, but they get the job done. Hopefully those will work well and improve the general technical impression of the game! I'm also hoping this is going to fix the faults in the CG gallery and maybe even some of the quirks in the save/load system.

Oh, and incidentally, the CG gallery will from now on be the "Collector cards" section and it'll only be for viewing cards. I think this makes more sense for the way that Timelapse is designed, since it's hard to tell what CGs should be in the archive in the first place.

What do you think about the 2k bonus posters? Do you have an image you'd like to see me render in that size? Let me know in the comments!

Congratulations on your new hardware! Hope you can get it up and running without incidents and to your liking. Since you asked us about images, how about the one with Hana on roller skates with blades in both hands beeing scolded by Iku? Always loved that one, it' pure PAL!

Sure, I think I might be able to do that one. Unfortunately, I have had quite a lot of incidents with the set up, so I don't know when it'll be ready. :)
