Knowing myself, I probably won't finish an animation featuring Kaitlyn and Emma by the end of January. Instead, I've decided to release the Kaitlyn model. Unlike my recent releases, this rig is inspired by Nyl's Baulder Gate 3 rig, but with a few extra switches. Learning from Nyl's models, I've realized that simplicity is key when it comes to controllers. I used to think more controllers were better, but now I understand that having only the essential ones makes things easier. This highlights the importance of having a basic understanding of all aspects of 3D. Without animation experience, I might have stuck with a rig overloaded with unnecessary controllers.

(Overtime, I will be adding more outfits to this character. This way I don't give myself too much work to do too fast.)

The main rig controls are located on the bone shaped like a gear next to Kaitlyn's head. It can be hidden by hiding the "Armature Properties" bone layer.

In order to see the custom property controls, you must have the bone selected in "Pose Mode". Then, go to your side "N' panel (where your add on panels are), then go to item, then down to custom properties. There you should see the switches.

---------------

Armature Properties Switch Breakdown:

IK Hand Right

  • Switches the right hand from FK to IK

IK Foot Left

  • Switches the left leg from FK to IK

IK Foot Right

  • Switches the left leg from FK to IK

IK Hand Left

  • Switches the left hand from FK to IK

Damped Track Neck

Switches the neck to damped track mode.

  • When this is at a value of 1, the neck controls will track the red axis looking bone located in the "Spine Master" bone layer. This makes it easier to animate the head without animating each neck controller. Just move the red axis looking bone wherever in the viewport and the head will follow.

IK Pole Follow Arms

Switches the IK Pole of the arms to follow mode.

  • When this is at a value of 1, the IK poles will automatically follow the elbows of the character, this way you don't have to go around the viewport looking for the controllers. This is probably a feature not needed but since I already rigged it might as well keep it.

IK Pole Follow Legs

Switches the IK Pole of the legs to follow mode.

  • When this is at a value of 1, the IK poles will automatically follow the knees of the character, this way you don't have to go around the viewport looking for the controllers.

IK Spline Spine

Switches the spine to IK mode.

  • When this is at a value of 1 the spine of the character will go into IK mode. This makes it easier to animate a wide range of motions where you don't want the upper spine moving.

EXPRESSIONS & MORPHS

All the expressions and Morphs are located in the shapekeys panel when you  click the character mesh. I've somewhat organized them into categories to make it easier for you to find what you may need.

Categories:

Morph:

  • This category is mainly full body morphs.

Extra Morph:

  • These are "extra" morphs that you can use to add on top of the current shape you have. Makes it a bit easier to dial in exactly what you want without having to sculpt too much.

Breasts:

  • There are morphs for the breasts, pretty simple.

Misc Morph:

  • These are miscellaneous morphs that I just couldn't justify putting in any other categories. Check em out, might be something you like in here.

Expression:

  • These are all the expression shape keys.

FACIAL UNITS

All the facial units are saved as pose assets. This allows you to easily layer units with addons such as animation layers.

You can download the pose library here.

COLOR ATTRIBUTES

These are basically effects that you can dynamically paint over your character. I made this tutorial a while back that's kind of outdated, but the principles are still the same.

R - Roughness

  • Using the color red, you can paint a wet effect on the character. I've mainly only used this for the lips of the character, but you can do it wherever you want. (Don't confuse this with sweat)

R - Clearcoat - G - Jizz

  • Using the Color Red, you can paint a clearcoat effect on the character.
  • Using the Color Green, you can paint Jizz on the character.

R - Blood G - Dirt B - Wetness

  • Using the Color Red, you can paint a blood splatter effect on the character.
  • Using the Color Green, you can paint a dirt splatter effect on the character.
  • Using the Color Blue, you can paint the wetness effect on the character. (This is what you would mainly use for sweat)

That's pretty much it!

Thanks for taking time to read this through, seriously.
