I like the different perspective you guys give. I am not a fan of talk shows that use every day people as props and I chose not to watch them. Maybe it just boils down to we shouldn't let people get so rich that they a willing to feck everyone else. Side notw: Was there ever an entertainment golden age? Maybe I'm cynical but it feels like this exploitative streak has always existed. Corps just got more effective.

J-town, the name that brings hope.

As someone who works in a small market news station, I applaud her choice to not associate herself with his style of "news." The few of us who are left get victimized daily while just doing our jobs of recording local history in real time. Most of us only do it anymore for altruistic reasons because the pay is shit and after Trump got elected people literally spit on us for absolutely no reason. I literally had someone flip my photographer off and lay on their horn while doing a live shot on a high profile murder. Was this person pro-murder? Do people just want murders not reported? The murderer is still at-large...do they want him to escape? I realize that none of the above things are true, which makes my job that more disheartening. Traffic on the high road gets lesser every year. We need help, culturally.

I loved the man-inside-snake bit... My favorite daytime talk memory is watching Tracy Chapman perform live on Rosie O'Donnell. Cut to me getting bullied for bringing a Tracy Chapman CD to an Independence Day movie watch party. (Could it be any more 90s?)

Andrew Melville

My favourite episodes are the ones where Gary has been hostile!

This made me so happy

I may have a different view of all this because I work in show business and know there are a million people who would have done what Jerry Springer did and it's not so much the guy doing it but the people who give him the stage.

What he did on the news was not at all the same as what he did on the tv show. He did political commentary, talking about things like jail reform. We need help culturally because the rich own everything and spend their money tearing us apart.

I remember watching an episode (as a kid) where was a female little person had two men fighting over her. I thought #goals 🙌🏽

Mary Radford

I recall at that time being huge for exploitative tv shows; from his show, to cops, judge Judy, to girls gone wild! I don’t think the people who made a fortune on these shows should be considered anti-elite, they’re elites that exploited working class and young people for their own profit. Are they as bad as corrupt politicians? No. Just a different level of bad.

I went to a later live taping of Jerry Springer show (maybe 2013) and it just seemed so awkwardly fake. They told you when to clap, when to chant "Jerry" and all the fights seemed so forced and barely anything happened. I don't know if it was always as fake but in the later years it was definitely phoned in.
