Please see “My Side of the Mountain” by Jean Craighead George. Poor kid from New York City leaves his family of 10 to go live in a hollowed out tree in the woods for a year. Kid ends up living there forever. Family follows him and builds a house. Kid keeps living in tree with a pet falcon. Excellent book series. But this kid, he’s 12 living in a tree in an outfit made out of deerskin from deer he set traps for or stole from poachers. Does the whole wild man thing. The kid in the book woulda loved living like this guy did

It’s a kids book btw. Written in the 50s I think. Ps Same Authors maybe more famous book “Julie of the Wolves” is racist against indigenous people and inaccurate though so avoid that one.
