Hello denizens of the tower!

As you know, Dungeons and Dragons 2024 is coming and the new books and changes have already given a lot of things to talk about.
We will adapt to their new SRD's guidlines and continue publishing our content in both Shadowdark RPG and soon, Dungeons and Dragons 2024.

What are your thoughts? We'd love to hear what you think.

I switched to Level Up (a5e) several years ago. From what i have seen it is still better than D&D24. I don't know why WotC still haven't made essential "choices" - such as hunters' mark or hex - into class features. Nor have they fixed creature CRs. And... a host of things... I really don't like the walled garden of D&D Beyond. Even if WotC are letting in some of their competitors. I'll be keeping my streak of near 20 years GMing and not paying for any WotC content. I think RPGs are in a pretty good place with a broad family of game systems inter compatible. Shadowdark, a5e, Tales of the Valiant, D&D24, et al... all do slightly different things but it is easy use material from one system in a game of another. Nor is it too hard to lift stuff from PF2e or Shadowheart. A few months ago Micheal Shea made a good point that "5e" is now bigger than just D&D. Kinda like how d20 games were bigger than D&D3x

We're with you with the pay-walled stuff of D&D Beyond. I do not like the subscription model for these kinds of games. I don't mind them selling tons of stuff, as long as I can buy whatever I deem reasonable and all content is a one-time purchase.

As of the 2024 rules, I'm abandoning D&D and so are most of the GMs I play with. those who only play are excited about the souped-up powers and having access to even more superhero powers faster. Some of my friends are heading to Pathfinder, others to DC20; myself, I'm digging more into the OSR. Shadowdark is where it's at for my group. Please hold the SD adventures true to the DC benchmarks of 9, 12, 15, 18. It feels like these were adapted from D&D with the automatic scaling of characters' proficiency bonuses, but that's not at all been my experience with SD. I adjust them all in game, usually down, since a lot of characters still have a couple of negative modifiers at level 5. DC 14 (normal) and DC 17 (hard) checks are totally attainable for 10th level adventurers in 5e, but only have a 25% and 10% chance of success, respectively, for a Shadowdark 5th level PC with -2.

Thank you for your input and feedback, I appreciate it. I wish to clarify that we do our Shadowdark adventures first, and then we convert them to 5e. But you're right, the DC benchmark is different and fixed in SD. I cannot promise to modify past works, but we will consider this for our future creations. And we can go the extra mile to publish our next magazine with this in our minds. It will be published at the end of the first week of next month.
