With the headset hooked over an ear and the top of his head Aeryn leaned back on the sofa bench in his quarters.

After pressing buttons on a small remote in his head he let the uplink take over. A simulation began to play in his mind, one he'd customized with a sentient A.I. that learned and adapted as it was used. It was a program of the picture perfect mate, one Aeryn could only dream of. Lately he'd been spending more time in the simulation, and spent even more hours coding additional add-ons for the experience. Soon enough, a prototype holographic matrix would be useable and Aeryn longed for the day to test it.

As the system booted, it started with a low, soft voice greeting him. "Hello there, I've missed you," said the program, finally coming live and displaying in Aeryn's mental simulated environment. He was a large, strong, healthy male drake with a long mane, and soft glowing blue eyes. An aesthetic choice on Aeryn's part, because when you’re building a boyfriend, why not have glowing eyes?

"Ive missed you too," he whispered, alone in his dark room, their ship slowly gliding through a nebula, the vessel distorting the gases with it’s wake. Aeryn reached a hand out, then caught himself and draped it over his head.

Remember, actions in your mind, not in person. He scolded himself and shifted in his position on the sofa.

"May I?" that voice, so concerned and caring. Emotional. Unusual for a male drake. Programmed. Perfect.

"Please," Aeryn said, his own voice with an air of femininity. His companion, this app, this program, kneeled before him and put his arms around Aeryn's hips and waist, nuzzling his head into his stomach and lap. The blue and white andro drake gave a weak smile, his heart fluttering in both real life and the simulation.

"I need you so much," the words left his muzzle before he'd thought, they were truth, he did need it. He hadn't realized just how much of a void was in his life until he'd created this being.

"I need you even more," was the reply. Genuine. The A.I had thought, then reacted as if it was alive. It brushed it’s hands up Aeryn's back and pulled his form closer to his face. It was comforting, warm.

Nice.

Yes, that was the word, it was nice.

"So, you don't find me disgusting...?" Aeryn asked, his voice nervous. When he programmed he basics of the A.I. he chose to be honest and include the heavy stigma that androgyne faced within their species. He thought being genuine was the best way to have the most real experience.

"I could never," said the program, he brushed a paw through Aeryn's mane and cupped his cheek. "You’re beautiful to me, and anyone who says otherwise doesn’t deserve to breathe the same air as you."

"But I'm...I could never be the perfect mate"

"No ones perfect, but it doesn’t change you’re perfect to me"

He smiled up at Aeryn and the tech minded drake put his arms around the programmed males shoulders into a hug.

"So you can't have pups, so you don't have the body of a woman...what does it matter when you love someone for exactly who they are?" He sounded so sweet and full of caring, Aeryn couldn't help but press his snout further into the neck of the program. He took a deep breath and wished he'd programmed the soft scent of male too.

"Can you..tell me again..?"

"How beautiful you are?"

"..yeah"

"Anytime" he whispered and nuzzled back into Aeryn's cheek. "I love the freckles on your chest" he leaned down and kissed where he described, "I love the curves of your back" he ran his hands down his spine. "Your scent is my home, your eyes are diamonds.."

The night rolled on, and the two exchanged many more words before Aeryn eventually drifted off, still wearing his headset.
