To be perfectly honest, you weren’t thinking too much on your way home today. Or rather, you just weren’t in the mood to think too much after the long day you have been through.

School was rough on you again and the fact that you had to stay overtime because a certain teacher wanted you to finish that project before you were allowed to go home didn’t help matters further. It didn’t even take that long, but it did successfully cause you to miss the last bus home, meaning it's the entire way on foot today.

Exactly what you needed after a hard day at school for sure.

Needless to say, your mood was quite sour. So when you came to the crossing where you would usually follow the road, you just immediately turned towards the forest without even thinking twice.

You knew it was a shortcut and much less monotonous than the plain road. It was a lot more uneven than the road though and generally more unsafe, but you were feeling frustrated right then and in a moment of weakness you told yourself that coming home as fast as possible was worth any risk.

After all, what could possibly happen to you in that forest? It’s not like bears and stuff still live here and also…

*Clirrr!!!*

…what …happened? The world was spinning… or was it just your head?

Did you… sit? Yeah, you sat at the base of a tree… and your back kinda hurt. Actually, your head hurt even more than your back… it felt like you were punched in the face by something hard… and wet…?

“Hey! Are you okay?!?” You heard a voice ring out from the distance. It sounded kinda feminine and echoey… but that might just be because you still felt dazed as all hell.

“Oh no. That potion hit you square in the face, didn’t it?” The voice asked, sounding a bit panicking and finally caused you to feel your face with your hands to check.

You really were wet. Drenched even. It felt like the entire liquid was even moving across your body, slowly but surely covering every part of it… yet somehow… disappearing?

Yeah, you were getting dryer by the second. What was up with that? But just as you were thinking that, the girly voice spoke up again. “Oh nonono… It’s already sinking in. I have no idea what this potion does to a human. Hey! Are you okay?!?”

Though actually, despite the girl's panic, you were feeling quite alright suddenly. Quite rejuvenated, if you're being real. Almost as if you have suddenly gained an energy boost out of thin air, which compelled you to get back onto your feet once again. So you did.

“Whoa there Christian, take it easy!” The girl yelped, seemingly startled by your sudden movements. The girl appeared to be an orange haired and dark skinned… fairy? With a lot of sciency bottles on her belt. You didn’t remember if you ever told her your name yet, but you were still so groggy that your entire skin felt weird, so it was no cause for concern for you.

In fact, you felt like you could tell that girl anything you wanted, without a care in the world, as she now seemed not only very trustworthy, but also very important to you. Yet you couldn't quite pinpoint why.

“Uhm… No cause for panic… I surely have an antidote against those changes for you… somewhere.”

Huh? Changes?

You did feel a bit tingly all over for a bit now, but never actually bothered to check or even just pay attention to what was happening to your body.

But it was true, your body was slowly compressing and shrinking inward, which you noticed when you saw the fairy and the world grow taller before your very eyes, which left you in an even better mood despite feeling a bit more powerless than before. Or was it because you actually felt more powerful because of it?

“I can fix this… I just… uhm…” The fairy was fumbling but you actually didn’t care all that much and more or less just embraced whatever strange thing was happening to you at that moment.

You could feel your skin getting cleansed, almost like you were taking a hot shower. It was as if invisible water was running over your body, washing away every scar or wound you had, while dissolving most if not all of the hair around your body as well. After only a few moments you even felt like your skin was shining for the first time ever in your life, which you were very happy with.

And even the shrinkage didn’t really bother you, as for every millimeter you lost from your shoulder width, you just felt cuter. Then your stomach started to aggressively trim itself down, which made you ecstatic, as you were approaching a small and thin waist in record time. You might look a lot weaker now, but you definitely felt better than ever before.

The same feeling translated surprisingly quickly to your chest and hips as well, making you scared at first, before that feeling faded into pure and genuine excitement. You didn’t need much and your body knew that, so it just gave the lumps on your chest a small boost or two in order to give your body a much more proper form.

The same was true for your hips. Ludicrous assets were never really your style, so a nice small boost to just make your hips wider than what little was left of your shoulder width came actually as a very welcome addition to your already growing lovely traits.

“Oh how I wish to have my usual powers right now. Never in my life have I transformed so many people accidentally before…” The fairy’s panic only seemed to increase. You didn’t exactly know what she was so upset about, but you decided to just listen to her and maybe help her if she needed you. Actually, it now felt surprisingly important to you to be available to help in whatever way you could.

“Stay with me here. I need to check on your mental state real quick. Would you please answer a few questions for me, Christian?” The fairy said and immediately your head began to feel a little fuzzy. Like this slightly tipsy kinda fuzzy.

But one thing swirled through your increasingly weird feeling head right off the bat: Was your name really Christian? The fairy said it so matter of factly, so you felt like there was some truth to that yet…

it was like your head was constantly and gently pulled into all directions, both physically and mentally. It really felt like you were becoming even cuter than before, with your face becoming rounder and softer than before. Even your hair grew out a bit, but not much. Only halfway down your shoulders, because more than that would once again just be too much for you.

Which is when it hit you and you spoke up to the fairy.

The fairy stared puzzled at your words as she replied. “Eh? Y-Your name is Melody now? Ah, obviously… how could I forget… Ahaha…” She just laughed weakly before asking her real question. “So… uhm… What exactly are you planning to do now, that you have finished transforming?”

‘Transforming’? That word sparked something deep within you… something you didn’t even knew existed. A duty, a purpose, but most importantly… wings?

Yes, you could feel them. Slowly but surely growing out from your back came your two massive and fuzzy moth wings, growing in tandem with your new purpose that had just manifested.

You needed to fly, so your wings grew to the size of the rest of your body. You needed perfect awareness, so feelers sprouted from the top of your head which amplified all of your senses by an exorbitant amount. But most importantly, you needed to protect, and these ol cloths just weren’t cut out for this.

You knew what you needed to do.

“What the…?” The fairy yelped as you initiated your transformation sequence, well awake that your old clothes might not survive that, but that didn’t matter to you. White armor started to appear around your glowing body, encasing you bit by bit with your most important regions being targeted first.

First your lovely little chest was encased, before it spread down your torso all the way to your hips. A dress like curtain then flowed out of your armor, just to give you that extra cute touch. Then your arms and legs were pretty much armored at the same time with your hands gaining gloves and your feet gaining boots with just the slightest hint of a heel.

Finally your magical girl colors of orange and blue appeared all over your dress and wings, symbolizing that you were ready, hypercharged with magic and willing to fulfill your destiny. So you loudly declare your catchphrase before taking off, knowing exactly what you needed to do.

The fairy, however, seemed even more confused than before and just whispered something along the lines of: “Er… I kinda expect the pesticide to just get rid of the pests, not turn someone into a magical girl who’s life mission is to rid my garden of pests. But I guess that works too…”

You didn’t hear much of what she said afterwards, nor did you really care. You could always ask the lady of the garden after you are done with your job. But right now duty was calling. And you weren’t planning on letting any bugs or other critters attack the wonderful garden any time soon. Not on your watch!

On the list of things one could do to get rid of pests in a garden I personally think summoning a magical girl should not be on it. Emphasis on “should not”.
