LUV IT! LUV IT! Fun reaction, one more thing LOVED IT!😆

Gotta save some trivia for the YouTube edit, but Jan de Bont started out as a cinematographer. One very notable movie he was DP on was the action classic Die Hard. Speed was, I believe, initially written as a Die Hard sequel, but was later rewritten to be an original movie and served as de Bont's directorial debut. Also, there is a sequel, and I doubt I'll be alone in warning you: you don't need to watch it. I don't want to tell you anything about it, but...there's one major factor that you could find out just by looking at the movie poster that would immediately give you a sense of what it's working against, on top of this one being so good.

I'm glad this one was an original movie, but it def has that Die Hard feel to it. But even more intense, imo. I checked the movie poster. 😆🌊

This was a welcome tonic after an awful workday, and great fun with your reaction, so thank you. It’s much less stressful on repeat viewings. Jack and Annie are still one of my favourite movie couples, they are so good together. I have watched this movie countless times over the years having owned it on VHS, DVD and now Bluray, and I still think it holds up well. The bus jump is, and always was, stupid but I’m able to overlook it, along with the speeding up of the train. Even with the stop button being all shot up, if the accelerator still worked I’d have taken my chance with just setting it to minimum and hoped it slowed enough to not die. But that wouldn’t have been a fun end and ya know, 90s plots and all that. I still wish Harry had made it, but it added a great emotional moment for Jack. Not relevant to this movie but I personally don’t think Jeff Daniels’ character is such a bad guy in The Martian, Teddy is ultimately responsible for the mission and remaining crew and has hard decisions to make.

kaiielle

90s plots indeed LOL. I agree with you on his character in The Martian - I just say bad guy cause it feels like every story needs some kind of character like that and his character in that is as close to that as you can get. Super stoked that you had a great time watching this after your work day! Thanks for watching James. 🤘

The part where the bus jumps over the gap in the fwy, I actually drive over that every day and I often think of this movie.

Tyler Foster

Ha, well, that's part of it. The more relevant part you might've seen is that Keanu bailed and was replaced by a decidedly un-charismatic Jason Patric, who is also saddled with a role that is *clearly* still *meant* to be Jack Traven but someone went through the script and did "find and replace" to change "Jack" to "Alex."

RE: the water barrels. They’re there for the exact reason we see. When Tuneman crashes, it would have been straight into the divider if not for the water barrels in front of it to cushion the impact.

kaiielle

Interesting! I wonder why this doesn't exist in more places, then. Maybe it's only in high impact areas?

No pilot in the cargo plane. It was being towed and we saw the driver run away. Isn’t it great when things work out? Heh.

Jason Chirevas

I’ll put it through the form, but another great movie with a scenario somewhat similar to SPEED is UNSTOPPABLE from 2010 with Denzel Washington and Chris Pine, directed by Tony Scott.

kaiielle

Oh thank goodness. I saw it was towed but I just assumed a pilot would still be in the plane.

Tom Evans

Two movies that I think are similar-ish to Speed, in terms of being really good, tense 90s action/thriller movies: The Rock and Armageddon

kaiielle

Excellent! Please make sure you suggest them through my form as well. Thank you!
