We've seen it ever since the original trilogy that Vader loves to play with his food. He gets a kick out of being much more powerful than his opponents and he wants them to know it. Against Luke, Reva, Obi-wan (the first fight in Obi-Wan), now Kanan and Ezra. To be fair, it's probably pretty boring being the best fighter he comes across so he's got to entertain himself I guess.

Wow! I didn't remember these two episodes were so great this early. As I mentioned in previous comments, the world-building around the empire and the early rebellion is to me one of the best and most enjoyable parts of Rebels (not that other things are bad, it's just one of my personal highlights). And as such, these kinds of episodes where the Ghost crew fights directly as part of the Rebel military are one of my favorites. To see all those classic rebel ships, such as the A-wings and CR90s. I also love commander Sato: his first impulse was to stay with the ship, but once he realised the ship was doomed, he ordered to abandon it, both things speak of his quality as a military leader. Also, it is interesting to see how well Hera works inside the military structure, when the rest of the Ghost crew is, to put it mildly, lacking military discipline. Perhaps, being the daughter of Cham Syndulla makes her more militarily minded. Also, in my opinion, they did a great job at portraying Vader as menacing. While he is clearly playing with them, it is also very clear how any of them don't stand a chance against him. Plus, singlehandedly decimating a whole squadron of A-wings (which are actually superior dogfighters than the X-wings) and disabling a frigate is what we would expect from the best pilot in the galaxy, but still very impressive.

I def think Hera's life as a child influenced how she is now as an adult and it's great to see! Completely agree with you about Vader.
