This is why I am moving away from 5th Edition and why I warn people that there is EVIL in my games. I f you can't handle adversity my table is not for you. There is slavery, sexism, racism, and all the bad things that exist in real life. I have only ever had one person express reservations and a quick conversation solved the problem. They never left the table. I simply asked for a logical reason that the CHARACTER, not the player, would not interact with the particular situation. They had no logical response. I think a lot of people forget the role-playing aspect. You may be afraid of "real" spiders, but that doesn't mean your character should be afraid of "imaginary" ones. I 100% agree with your take on this subject!
