Hey everyone!

I'm currently designing a way for players to farm royal jelly. Right now, as it stands, there's only one way to reliably farm it - inject someone with Sorne pherocore and have them grow a larva of the Empress inside of them. Once that empress emerges, she will produce 5 royal jelly every few days.

We want something alternative, a bit more reliable perhaps.

I have two designs and I'd like to hear which one we should go with. May the power of democracy prevail:

Option 1: Royal growth

This is a 1x1 structure that is created using royal jelly. It then slowly grows in size, and can eventually be deconstructed to yield back the royal jelly, plus more royal jelly due to the fact that it has grown. Downside: This requires micromanagement from the player, as the player decides when to deconstruct the royal growth. Upside: Other than initial investment, it requires no care or further resources.

Option 2: Royal morpher

This is a 2x2 structure that is created using normal insect jelly, some royal jelly and mostly work. It's essentially a reactor that needs to be fuelled with normal insect jelly, and over time it produces royal jelly as long as it's fueled. Downside: Needs to be refuelled with insect jelly. Upside: Takes no micromanagement, as the process is fully automatic.

What do you think?

Both I think would be good but have the growth be a bit bigger and more expensive but you get more from it

Royal Morpher sounds good. What are the inputs/outputs? Something like 5-10 jelly makes one royal? What are the insect’s goals? If the goal of the insects is to slowly take over/consume, making royal jelly from insect jelly should be more… predatory. Seems like there would be something else going into the morpher. Live victims, meat, corpses, etc? If insects were originally bred to fight mechanoids, maybe royal jelly needs mechanoid inputs? Like a successful hive that is destroying mechanoids, would have access to mechanoid corpses/parts and those can be converted into royal jelly which helps upgrade the hive?
