Hey guys, Hello ladies, Hola everyone, I am here to obtain some of your infinite wisdom. I hit a creative block and I think you can all brainstorm some ideas to get me out of this pickle!

Vanilla Factions Expanded - Insectoids 2 introduces pherocores. They are brand new items that drop from Insectoid bosses. They represent the genetic payload of a specific insectoid geneline - they are essentially ultra-tech items that contain super exotic DNA chain of different species.

All Pherocores are tradeable, which means they can be sold and may even rarely appear in stocks of black market traders.

They can of course also be used to build player-controlled hives of that specific geneline.

Lets take a look at the pherocores:

SORNE PHEROCORE

  • Description: A pheromone controlling micro-organ. It is necessary to construct certain types of insectoid hives. Pherocores have been embedded deep into the brains of geneline leaders which allowed ancient civilizations to control the hives.\n\nThis pherocore belongs to the oldest geneline from the planet Sorne, which is known for their great numbers and versatility.

  • Market Value: 500 Silver

  • Stack Limit: 10

  • Mass: 1 kg

  • Beauty: 0.25

  • HP: 100

  • Deterioration Rate: 2.0

  • Flammability: 0%

NACHUDUS PHEROCORE

  • Description: A pheromone controlling micro-organ. It is necessary to construct certain types of insectoid hives. Pherocores have been embedded deep into the brains of geneline leaders which allowed ancient civilizations to control the hives.\n\nThis pherocore belongs to the hyper-aggressive geneline from the volcanic planet Nachudus.

  • Market Value: 1000 Silver

  • Stack Limit: 10

  • Mass: 1 kg

  • Beauty: 0.25

  • HP: 100

  • Deterioration Rate: 2.0

  • Flammability: 0%

CHELIS PHEROCORE

  • Description: A pheromone controlling micro-organ. It is necessary to construct certain types of insectoid hives. Pherocores have been embedded deep into the brains of geneline leaders which allowed ancient civilizations to control the hives.\n\nThis pherocore belongs to the great geneline from the planet Chelis, known for their locust-like appearance and ability to fly for thousands of miles.

  • Market Value: 1000 Silver

  • Stack Limit: 10

  • Mass: 1 kg

  • Beauty: 0.25

  • HP: 100

  • Deterioration Rate: 2.0

  • Flammability: 0%

KEMIA PHEROCORE

  • Description: A pheromone controlling micro-organ. It is necessary to construct certain types of insectoid hives. Pherocores have been embedded deep into the brains of geneline leaders which allowed ancient civilizations to control the hives.\n\nThis pherocore belongs to the mutated geneline from the toxic world of Kemia, known for their ability to use toxins to dispose of their enemies.

  • Market Value: 1000 Silver

  • Stack Limit: 10

  • Mass: 1 kg

  • Beauty: 0.25

  • HP: 100

  • Deterioration Rate: 2.0

  • Flammability: 0%

XANIDES PHEROCORE

  • Description: A pheromone controlling micro-organ. It is necessary to construct certain types of insectoid hives. Pherocores have been embedded deep into the brains of geneline leaders which allowed ancient civilizations to control the hives.\n\nThis pherocore belongs to the Xanides geneline, which has evolved in a mineral-rich planet and create nearly impenetrable armor around themselves.

  • Market Value: 1000 Silver

  • Stack Limit: 10

  • Mass: 1 kg

  • Beauty: 0.25

  • HP: 100

  • Deterioration Rate: 2.0

  • Flammability: 0%

My question is: Do you have any suggestions what else they could be used for? I don't know if they really need any other use, but I'm worried for people not interested in building your own hives, they'll just be valuable junk... but then again, so are subcores in Biotech DLC.

So... any ideas?

An alternative use could be using the cores to construct security buildings that severely debuff and/or damage insectoids with an aura effect or something of that nature. Create a natural safe zone that insectoids are punished for entering without disabling their assaults from happening entirely.

I think integration into other mods would be cool, and this also goes for all of vanilla expanded and even base game expansions. Though I know that is much easier said than done, and it can cause bloat issues. Let us use these to add some genes to our colonists through Biotech, if we have certain Ideologies we can meditate at or worship them. Or just let us install them into our colonists outright to make some mutants. Let's cook them up as some fancy and exotic food that tastes horrible, but nobles see it as rare and exquisite. I think interactions with other mods and expansions are more often good than bad, but that's up to you and this amazing team to decide.

Using it to create an attractor/repellent could be interesting, being able to make sure a specific geneline would be more or less likely to attack you

My first thought was implants that give you a couple of passive buffs (move speed, pain resistance, better immunity) and a summon capability once every 30 days. The tradeoff? Negative mood, and other colonists have a reduced opinion of the bearer. Another idea, remember the original repulsor from VEI 1? Maybe that could need attuning with specific pheromone packs (loaded like gene banks) that then block the respective geneline from tunneling. Last one, lower priority because it's tied to DLC, but maybe you could convert pherocores into a unique gene pack with decent metabolism scores relative to their effects.
