Chapter 51

Gasping for breath, Ed Lintle pushed aside the huge dragon, ignoring its disgruntled expression. He cleared his throat and said to Bru Nant outside the carriage, "Back to the academy."

"Alright."

It was the beginning of the school term. Having been away from the academy for three months, the third prince had missed the final exams of the previous academic year. Therefore, Ling Chunann should have applied for a retest with his mentor first. However, he had postponed this matter for a week.

A week later, Ling Chunann kicked away the dragon that seemed reluctant to leave him alone and finally left the house. His accommodation was in the single-person residential area, where few people were seen around. Coincidentally, when Ling Chunann returned from his mentor's place, he happened to meet the male lead.

The distance between Ling Chunann and the male lead was quite far at the moment, allowing Ling Chunann to clearly see the expression on the male lead's face. However, due to the angle, the male lead couldn't see him. Ling Chunann turned to 098 and asked, "Is he recovering?"

"It seems so," 098 replied, somewhat surprised. "He's quite resilient."

"He truly deserves to be the male lead," Ling Chunann said. "We should focus on him next time."

"...," Although not sure what the host was planning, it seemed like 098 was starting to sympathize with the male lead.

Rod had read many novels before crossing over, and most of the protagonists in them became dominant figures after crossing over, conquering territories and winning beauties' hearts. In fact, he was no exception. Since crossing over, he had plenty of talents, family support, beautiful women, and opportunities. He was the epitome of a winner in life.

As for the third prince, before he reappeared in front of Rod, Rod didn't consider him a threat at all. However, now he had to prioritize him.

Though there was no evidence, Rod just felt that the incident where he was beaten up last time was related to Ling Chunann. So, as soon as he returned to the academy, he contacted the second prince.

"What are they talking about?" Ling Chunann couldn't quite make out what the two were saying due to the strong wind in the woods.

"They're saying that the male lead is reminding the second prince to be cautious of you," 098 replied indignantly. "The male lead is despicable. He's accusing you of colluding with General Karu Lan's family, trying to usurp the position of the heir to the throne."

While 098 and Ling Chunann were discussing, the two in the distance had finished their conversation.

Ling Chunann watched as the two left one after another and then walked back leisurely. However, just as he took a few steps, someone hugged him from behind. His magic practitioner level was close to level eleven now. Considering that there were only a handful of magic practitioners above level ten in the entire empire, and they were all old men, it was obvious who could approach him so quietly. Feeling something pressing against his lower body, Ling Chunann frowned and said, "Let go."

The dragon looked aggrieved. "Darling, I didn't mean to run out. You've been away for so long, and I miss you terribly."

He hadn't spent much time communicating with his mentor, no more than two hours in total. Hearing this, Ling Chunann almost chuckled with anger. "So it's my fault, huh?"

"It's not your fault. It's my impatience. Darling, don't be angry." The dragon quickly apologized, then stubbornly approached again. However, Ling Chunann slapped it away. He wasn't interested in any romantic rendezvous in the woods.

Over the next week, Ling Chunann completed the end-of-year tests he had missed the previous year, and everything remained calm. Even 098 found it somewhat unbelievable. "Host, the male lead surprisingly didn't come to trouble you."

"Why? Do you wish he did?" Ling Chunann enjoyed the full-body massage from the dragon leisurely, asking casually.

"... It's not consistent with his character setting. According to the male lead's personality, he should have come to bother you long ago after returning," 098 analyzed. "Maybe he's holding back something big. Host, you must be careful."

"Forget about last week when he came to bother my second brother?" Ling Chunann asked. "The next one coming to bother me won't be the male lead."

Suddenly remembering the information he had heard in the small woods last time, which was interrupted by the sudden arrival of the dragon, 098 felt a bit panicked. However, seeing the host seemingly calm, he suddenly felt like he was more anxious than the emperor. "Host, what do you plan to do?"

"If my second brother comes to bother me, I'll personally go beat up the male lead."

"... "

In fact, Ed Lintle had been leading a leisurely life for the past month. However, just a month later, as he finished his class, he saw the captain of the royal guard.

Upon seeing Ed Lintle, Andre knelt down on one knee, his expression extremely respectful. "Third Prince, His Majesty the King requests your presence at the palace."

098: "Host, please be careful. There might be a trap."

Without answering 098, Ed Lintle nodded to Andre. "Wait a moment, I'll fetch something from my dorm."

Then Ed Lintle returned to his dormitory at an unhurried pace. He said to the dragon that came out to meet him, "I need to go to the palace for a while. Wait for me at home."

"Don't you want to take me with you?" The dragon, who was originally delighted by Ed Lintle's return, suddenly wilted. "How long will you be gone?"

"Three days." Ed Lintle pulled out an outfit from the wardrobe.

"No way." The dragon pressed Ed Lintle's hand. "I want to accompany you."

Ed Lintle looked at him from head to toe. "It's not suitable for my father and mother to know about your existence right now."

The dragon seemed disappointed that Ed Lintle didn't want his family to know about him. His expression was a bit dejected. However, considering the disapproval of human society towards same-sex marriage, he showed understanding. "I can transform into a small size and hide in your pocket."

With that, the dragon transformed into a mini-dragon about the size of a fist and hopped in front of Ed Lintle.

Seeing this tiny creature devoid of the majestic aura of a dragon, Ed Lintle sighed internally.

For the dragon, this was nothing significant. He had heard that the royal palace was full of darkness and deceit. His darling was going for three days, not three hours or three minutes. If he got hurt, how could he not be by his side?

Completely unaware that Ed Lintle, now a level ten mage, was nearly invincible among humans, the dragon fretted.

In the end, Ed Lintle brought the miniaturized dragon back to the palace.

The king was a slightly chubby middle-aged man, very amiable when he smiled. The queen was graceful and beautiful. Facing their third son, who hadn't come home for several months, they both wore gentle smiles.

"Father, Mother." Ed Lintle bowed respectfully.

"No need for so much ceremony, my child." The king's face lit up with a brilliant smile as he helped Ed Lintle up.

The queen also showed affection, with a hint of reproach in her tone. "You didn't come back to see your father and mother even after your adventures."

"It's my fault." Ed Lintle apologized sincerely. "May I ask what brings Father and Mother to summon me this time?"

"It's been so long since we last saw you, and we've missed you terribly," the king said with a smile. "Your mother cooked some dishes specially for your return today. You should freshen up in your room first. I'll have a maid call you for dinner later."

"Yes."

Watching the two smiling faces and seemingly genuine affection, Ed Lintle couldn't help but sigh. "If I hadn't known the original plot, I might have been deceived by their acting. It's like hiding strength behind kindness."

098 agreed. "Yes, Host, you should be more cautious."

In the original plot, news of the third prince's death had spread around this time. The king and queen publicly vowed to punish those who harmed the third prince, but after discovering that it was done by the Karu Lan family, there was no further action. They didn't even reprimand them, and it seemed as if the third prince had never existed.

"I think the third prince might not be their biological son," Ed Lintle speculated.

"It's possible," 098 replied. "I remember a part in the plot that mentioned the king's ascension history. It said that originally, the throne of the Lante Empire should have been inherited by the then Crown Prince, the current king's brother. However, just before his ascension, the Crown Prince died, and the current king ascended to the throne instead."

"Interesting."

As Ed Lintle listened to 098, he followed a maid to his courtyard.

The servants all bowed respectfully when they saw Ed Lintle, but Ed Lintle could easily sense a hint of disdain from the depths of their eyes. It wasn't obvious; the original third prince's face appeared cold and stern, but in reality, he was full of pride and disdain, naturally not bothering to observe these servants. Therefore, he didn't notice anything unusual. However, Ed Lintle was different. What's more, these people's acting skills were clearly inferior to those of the king and queen.

Back in his bedroom, Ed Lintle lifted the small dragon, which had been moving around in his pocket all this time. The next moment, the dragon stood before him, eager to run outside angrily. Ed Lintle swiftly pulled him back.

"Darling, they've bullied you, and I'm going to teach them a lesson," the dragon said.

As a member of the dragon clan, Monashus could not judge human emotions from their micro-expressions, but he could easily perceive whether the other party harbored good intentions or ill will. Since Ed Lintle returned to the palace, except for the guard captain, Andre, who escorted him back initially, none of these people meant well.

Including his darling's parents.

"Who do you want to teach?" Ed Lintle asked.

The dragon replied, "Everyone you just met."

Ed Lintle didn't let go of him, but continued, "Have they disrespected me? Have they hurt me?"

"..." The dragon was a bit dumbfounded. In dragon culture, they simply killed whoever they didn't like, without such concerns.

"Besides, if you want to teach them a lesson, don't rush over like this. Many people now know that you're with me." Ed Lintle continued, "It's not good for me to explain if you act like this."

Was his darling feeling sidelined? The dragon felt a bit aggrieved.

Was the host finally going to drive away this dragon? 098 was very much looking forward to it.

"So, next time, we should go together if we want to teach someone a lesson," Ed Lintle suggested.

The dragon's eyes lit up. "Great!"

098 sighed deeply at this hit. It seemed he shouldn't expect too much. Every day, he watched the host being affectionate, and it was tiring.

Just then, Karu Lan's voice came from outside the door. She seemed a bit anxious. "Brother, are you there?"
