Well, I would disagree with you on Aqua's motive not being influenced by his past life. As a doctor, he was unable to save Sarina. That clearly left a huge impact on him, seeing that he kept her as his phone wallpaper after so many years, as takes a look at that picture to get himself steeled up to help other people in his job. After reincarnation, he was unable to save Ai despite his close proximity and medical knowledge. So I would say that the events in his previous life and current life compound upon his obsessiveness to protect his sister. I think that it is currently better for Ruby that Aqua doesn't know her previous identity. I he found out, I can't imagine how worse his obsession to protect her would get.

I'm going to have to agree with the commenter above: Aqua's motives (to protect his sister) are heavily informed by his previous life. He wanted to protect (save?) Sarina and failed. He wanted to protect Ai and failed. He does not want to fail again.
