This episode is the most Demian - Herman Hesse inspired, I feel.

see it's so funny to me that you're like "this show makes my brain see imagery that is just...you don't see what i'm seeing" as if all the phallic and yonic imagery in the show isn't 100% intentional and purposeful. and also yeah, like, the whole "why is utena looking for akio" thing--she's a 14 year old girl with no other adults she can turn to for advice or just to talk to, and akio's been deliberately cultivating this relationship with her and getting her to trust him. i really don't think you can blame her for seeking him out, even if the red flags are SUPER obvious to us as viewers

So the whole thing with the cats is to show that time is passing, outside of where they are. The end where Tokiko says Akio and Mikage haven't aged but she has, just reinforces it.

So fun fact, the "We Just made a deal." is translated in other versions as "We're only business partners" The difference in translation is probably because the phrasing is a bit vague. As far as my not so great Japanese language skills can understand the literal meaning is more like "(I) only made a deal/transaction with you." Though there seems to be some sounds I can't quite make out between when he says the word for deal and the word for "only". However, what is clear to me is that Souji starts that sentence with the word for "you" so 100% the deal he is referring to is the deal he made with Akio. Given that he goes on to say "I have no reason to obey your orders". And Akio says "Yes" using the Japanese expression for agreeing with a statement. "That was our deal." Rather than an English "Yes, that was our deal." which could be interpreted as Akio saying "Yes you do have a reason, it was our deal." So I think that this conversation is Souji basically saying that the deal he made didn't involve obeying orders, or that they had a deal in the past but it was fulfilled. Lastly, you seemed to miss that at the end there Akio tells Tokiko that people who stay on the school grounds will never become adults. So immortality for everyone? Which means it is unlikely kids on campus wont notice notice Anthy, Souji, or Akio don't age in comparison to themselves. I am not sure how that works or why the students don't mention anything about that. Though it does put a horrifying re-contextualization of Mitsuru's desire to grow up. I'm sure that the next episode will totally make it clear /s

I think the bros just overlooked the obvious second meaning of "we just made a deal", meaning we ONLY made a deal, i don't think he was ever on Akios side.
