I'm so glad I can watch this with you guys, I had such a tough time watching it on my own, it supposedly gets pretty crazy yet the first 4 episodes were already rough for me.

Kaiji is the most underestimated series the whole time. People don't like it simply because of the art style; It is a shame they missed such a good story. After reading 86 volumes of manga, I feel the art style is actually cute as hell. The secondary creations are also God Tier, really appreciate the spinoffs and fandom.

Glad to see them stoked about where it could go, both in the micro of game-abuse and the macro of plot direction. Kaiji doesn't waste its potential.

First time watching this, and so far, it's grabbed my attention. I need to go back through my list and see all the shows I wrote off based on their cover and give them a shot. I don't want to miss out on a good story.

i wonder if they'll even like this.. the reveals at the end are pretty good payoffs, but the pace of this might be way too slow for them.. since its an old story and while a lot of the story beats were fresh at the time of writing, are pretty dated. and with how they overanalyze every episode, they would see everything coming a mile away and would be pretty bored by the plot development.. and just end up waiting for things to play out and be like "yup yup saw that coming" the whole time.. probably very underwhelming reactions all around

That would be a sad and superficial approach to enjoying the show for sure. While FKMT pacing is glacial compared to almost anything this is not a case of bad pacing. It's using this time to hammer in anxiety and from anxiety, metaphor. Madhouse visual and sound design are lovely accompaniment to the deep sinking frustration that underpins the whole show. It's true drama in all its exaggerated glory against a backdrop of dreary greed and self-interest that constantly tests Kaiji's humanity. Plus fun game theory and gambling of course. Reducing this to a series of twists and plot points rather than unique experiental value would be very sad and shortsighted.
