Some information that isn't explained in the anime Spirits are kind of in their own category, separate from monsters, and Spirit Magic & Holy Magic is different from regular magic, not working on Magicules but on pure "Spiritual Particles" which apparently are the building blocks of Magicules. This is how they are described in the novel: The behavior of the spiritual particles that magicules were made of was apparently difficult to predict. They ignored time and space as they moved around, cutting straight through well near any barrier. The near-random elements that controlled their movements—the forces of nature that governed over these particles—made it impossible to handle them, unless you knew how they worked. So even in Hinata's Holy Field, Spirits and Spirit Magic work without a problem. Therefore, if the opponent wasn't someone as broken as Hinata, bringing out Ifrit in as a pure spirit would have been a great move,
