The visit wasn't nearly as dragged out in the novels. It's filler. The school arc was also meant to lead directly into the next arc, which served as the climax. Being pedantic doesn't change the fact that the adaptation changed the flow hence the purpose of these scenes. It went from establishing Yuzarania to a buffer before the action, which was supposed to take place right now.

And Slime Diaries was a VERY fun slice of life spinoff. Got to see more of the side and supporting characters, lots of entertaining interactions, etc. Each episode left me smiling from cheek to cheek.

Pacing issues don't turn canon material that set up and establish things for the future into filler.
