Just in case no one has told you guys, the next episode (E08) is a recap episode with no new perspectives or information. You can safely skip that one and go straight to episode 9.

I kind of feel that the boys misunderstood the situation a little bit, or at least i hope, maybe i was the one who did. The line was "You have to protect your mom." and it made her rethink her mom's situation a little bit. Her mom does remember her birthday, might not have time to buy an actual present, and had a cake for her. Not saying her mom is parent of the year, but in all likelihood the dad isn't the magical solution and DID in fact abandon both of them. What she said to her mom in the end i saw as something positive, and seemed to be received as such, as in "I'm not abandoning you mom, not now." All the negativity came from what Rika imagines her mom is thinking, not something we saw her say other than the line about leaving too, which is kind of the OPPOSITE of what Rika thinks her mom wants. (her mom worrying about her leaving instead of wishing she never had her.)
