god its been so long since i went to see this movie in theaters. hadnt watched it since but i was waiting for yall to finally get to it, not only bc is hibike one of my fav shows of all time, the movie is utterly fantastic

In my personal opinion, it should be the other way around in which Mizore was the one who always wanted to do the hug, as to both affirm the relationship and to do the thing she wants with the person she likes. Nozomi just happened to stumble upon the hug after seeing the first-years do it and introduced it to Mizore thinking that they've never done it before even since middle school. The delayed response from Mizore was more of a mix of nervousness when communicating with the sole person she views close and the thought of "oh, are we actually doing it now?", only for Nozomi to retract it after dangling what she always wanted in front of her, as Nozomi saw no response from Mizore and either misunderstood it as her not wanting it or staying safe not wishing to ruin, endanger or strain the relationship by "forcing" it on her, especially after how their fragile relationship just got patched-up on and after understanding how she was previously unaware of how much her actions had emotionally impacted Mizore. I believe that I personally resonated and related with Mizore even more than just a large extent as it practically happened to me on a 1:1 level in terms of both what occurred and our responses. I've been there, thought what she thought, felt what she felt, and understood almost entirely in the reasonings behind her action taken. Though, the only difference is that the situation didn't get to be resolved, and I took the worst possible course of actions to confront the issue instead, which is real-life I guess. The depiction in this movie is definitely too real and accurate that it's uncanny, props to KyoAni and the author.
