Izanami's story is actually pretty well known if you've looked up some Japanese mythology. it'll definitely help to understand her if you decide to look it up. I don't think it has any spoilers either.

Izanami is classic Japanese Mythology. She was the wife of Izanagi; the father of the gods and creator of Japan. Izanami died giving birth to her final child. In grief for Izanami, Izanagi traveled to Yomi, the Japanese underworld to retrieve his wife. He found her in the darkness of Yomi having already having eaten the food and being unable to leave. Izanagi tried to take her out anyway, but out of curiosity, on their journey back to the surface, he took the comb that bound his hair while she slept and lit it on fire like a torch so that he could see his wife's face in the darkness of Yomi. Her form had been transformed by death into that of a rotting corpse riddled with maggots and other foul creature that feast on dead flesh. In fear, Izanagi screamed and fled. Izanami woke and pursued him but he escaped from the cave's entrance and pushed a boulder into the mouth of the cave to block it. There is a real cave in Japan, that one can visit, though not enter of course, that is believed to be the entrance to Yomi.

Love this episode so much the last few episodes are such a roller coaster it’s amazing... also I’d love to see you guys react to jujutsu Kaisen to replace this it’s excellent story wide story wise and the quality of the animation is in point since mappa is the goat of this season at least to me
