Oh wow, with the amount of anime you guys have watched I'm surprised this is your first time seeing Yakisoba Bread

terminator6969

I think they just don't "get" it, maybe when the S2 tone shift starts they'll at least be able to read the mood of each scene better

BirthdayParty

I think it's fine though. These first few episodes are all about setting up characterization, the heavy drama hasn'f started yet. And the Bros seem to have gotten the characterization down pat.

They don't watch anime for the culture, so these things go over their heads 99.9% of the time. It's why they're ok with watching dubs for example. That is because they don't view anime as a japanese soft power or a cultural experience, but more of shows that happen to be animated and happen to be made in japan.

I don’t reckon any of us would’ve really read the mood correctly on all of the scenes when we first watched it. The first season, just like in the LNs, is a superficial deception in itself, designed to hurt the viewer even more when you realise how totally wrong we were about everything.

Ryan

Wat. They've seen several anime with Yakisoba bread. Off the top of my head, didn't Rei Kiriyama eat it several times in Sangatsu?

Damiester

We may not be correct on all of the implications, but are certainly more attuned to the Japanese culture that's being referenced lol. These are observations that naturally rub off on many people who consume the products.

Catus

Does anyone know what these subs are? I watched this with some pretty bad translations and this one the bros are watching seems much better than what I can remember seeing.

loveless

First reply is the most butthurt reaction ever lmao

Minashiro Soushi

I'm using [WhyNot] release, it's a different sub from the bros one, but still very good and syncs up just fine.

Catus

Thanks I'll look into it. The version I watched was bad.

R_K41

That's just your bad faith reading of my reply, there's nothing butthurt about it. I'm simply explaining how some people who'd watch this much anime could still be ignorant of or keep missing these cultural things that would be common sense to most anime fans, even the ones that watched less anime than the bros. And that is because it doesn't have to do with the amount of anime someone consumes, but more of how they approach and experience anime.
