UUUUGH I am always so excited for Saturdays because of the Noreagami reactions but very quickly turn into disappointment because it's only one episode. I'm really glad you guys are enjoying the show!

Yeah, you'll find a lot of domain crossover in Japanese mythology. There is said to be 8 million kami in Japan; a number that in Japanese numerology is meant to represent infinity. In reality there really are hundreds if not thousands of gods in Japan, many of them beyond the main pantheon are regional, and some (like Bishamonten) are borrowed from pantheons on the main continent. Remember, while we think of Japanese culture a monolith, it wasn't always. There used to be many distinct cultures, all with their own gods. Over time they were destroyed, one after another, and their gods were absorbed into the greater Japanese patheon. If you made it to the end of this word vomit I thank you and I apologize. It was just too great an opportunity to nerd.

"Yato the Delivery God" as Yato addressed himself is pretty simple way of explaining the whole "teleportation" thing: you pray to God and wish for an answer, maybe God answers and appears to you as a burning bush or whatever. So to simplify it: you call God, God answers, God appears. This show (and manga) is actually quite accurate about religious movements and beliefs in Japan (Buddhism, Shinto, Taoism, Hindu) and several gods and deities, myths and folklore, and how those all are blended and fused into one unique religion with their very own traditions, beliefs and culture. The names are a bit more complicated, and the fact that English is not my native language is not going to make this any easier. :s But I try my best and I hope that this doesn't turn into a huge mess and just confuse you even more so... As we have seen before, names are extremely important. Regalias have their own naming system and Gods can have several different names as well, like Bishamonten or Bishamon. Bishamonten is originally a Buddhist deity called Vaiśravana (Veena is a nickname given by Kazuma). Japanese lore is heavily influenced by Chinese mythology and folklore and many deities and Gods has their origin in Buddhism, Hinduism and/or Taoism. Regalias have three names, Yukine for an example: -the name Yuki (which releases the weapon form), the vessel Setsu (their weapon form), and their given name, Yukine. The "tattoo" in Yukine's chest is his given name and has two characters in it, 雪音. First one, 雪 is "yuki" and means snow, second one 音 is sound, so his name means "sound of snow". Also alternate reading for character 雪 is "setsu". (Yato called Yukine "Setsu" when introducing Yukine to Tenjin few episodes ago). SEKKI, Yukine as a weapon: The weapon form's name is combined with the character for "vessel". In Japanese, when two words are combined, an ending "tsu" on the first word will double the letter of the second instead. So when Yato summons "Sekki", Yukine transforms into a sword. There is power in names, naming someone means to give a name for their entire existence. It is identity and personality and one's true nature. One's name should not be called carelessly, it's believed that you can even gain control over someone by calling them by their true name or in worst case even "erasing" their entire existence by ripping off their name. The nicknames and (several) common names are to protect one's true self.

The whole name system reminds me a bit of Natsume Yuujinchou where the spirits name were written down in a notebook and the one in charge of it would control them at will. Very interesting point!
