Kyogai was definitely turned by Muzan, but one wonders how Muzan became what he is. (Well if, like myself, someone isn't reading the manga they probably wonder.) Also, I'm particularly looking forward to the next reaction.

6 episodes to go guys... :)

Jake Thompson

All demons were turned by Muzan with the exception of Yushiro (who was a one in a million progeny), hence how they all have the curse and are essentially beholden to him.

Chepe Ocampo

Question for everyone here. How on Earth did Muzan turn Kyogai if it's shown here he obviously wasn't a demon till after his art got stepped on? You even see his vision start clouding up red and then he's a demon.

Minashiro Soushi

I prefer the literal interpretation, with exactly what was shown: Kyogai was already a demon at the point of flashback, but was holding back onto his humanity. The guy said, that he wasn't leaving the house, he probably was going for a midnight snack now and then, but hadn't become a "true monster". And the scene in the flashback broke him completely, after which he most likely went on and strove to join Twelve Moons, as he had nothing else left - his writing and musical talents denied by "puny humans".

Minashiro Soushi

Thing is, demons in this show aren't always raging for human flesh and attack everyone indiscriminately like wild beasts. They are much closer to vampires in this sense, from what I gather - they can hardly refuse the "hunger", but otherwise will have no problems blending in, unless they have a severe deformity.

Lazy_Scorpio

The other interpretation is that they showed what he was like as a human and then what happened after some later or what he imagined. Something along those lines. Either way, it's the less literal way to see it.

Cat_Sidhe

He was already a demon. That's why he never left the house and therefore his stories had no substance. Demons in this series don't need to constantly be in their demon form.

Jake Thompson

I like to think Muzan manipulated him into becoming a demon in order to improve his writing skills, but even after his transformation his critic was still a dick.

the drum guy turned into a demon before by Muzan but controlled his urge to kill until the dude insulted his writing
