Regarding the intro and “we live in this kind of world”. There was another reminder in the episode Thorfinn had his nightmare of his father, it was cut from the anime, but when he wakes up, in the manga, there are some of Askeladd’s men trying to rape one of the English girls from the village. It was a nice reminder and a symbol to show that no matter what world he’s in, dream world or real world, the nightmare continues.

that scene happens right before Askeladd decides to go rescue Canute actually

Yes it does, I don’t remember the exact number of the episode though.

Yeah, it already happened but Thorfinn does have a few dreams. Also I think some stuff has already been cut. spoiler... So I know later on we getg this blonde chick that follows Thorfinn when hes older because of what he did, and I kind of wish they would've had that as a regular episode, and then brought her back and blah blah. instead of retroactively going back in flashback,

On the topic of feeding large groups of people, I remember learning about the peasants crusade, and how the Byzantine emperor made the “crusaders” leave Constantinople before the actual crusading armies commissioned by the papacy arrived because he feared how feeding ~40,000 people for a long stretch of time would affect the lives of his own people down the line. Bear in mind, Constantinople was arguably the largest and greatest city in all of Europe at this point in history, and had a population in the hundreds of thousands. So, if a giant like Constantinople couldn’t afford to feed a group of 40,000 you can see why even a modest city of ~2000 or so would panic at a group of only 500 staying for any length of time.
